It was a large, mostly Danvers-based crowd that gathered in Beverly Saturday night for a concert to celebrate and honor a friend, while also raising money for a scholarship fund in his name.
Brad Delp, a Danvers High School graduate, class of 1969, and the lead singer of the band BOSTON, was 55 years old when he died last March. Yet Delp’s friends, family and former classmates are trying to ensure that his legend lives on through the Brad Delp Memorial Scholarship Fund, which was set up shortly after the singer passed away.
Each ticket purchased Saturday night went towards the fund; last year’s event raised nearly $40,000.
“Everyone here knew Brad in some way,” said Steve Cohen, a close friend and one of Delp’s former high school band mates, of the more than 300 people who showed up to dance and reminisce amid popcorn, pizza and cocktails. “It’s really Brad’s spirit that we want to keep alive,” Cohen said.
