Hamilton, Ontario's View Magazine has issued the following report from Sean Palmerston:

One of the most consistent, respected Canadian death metal bands over the past 15 years is Montreal’s CRYPTOPSY. Since the early ‘90s, the quintet has remained one of the most popular extreme acts this country has ever produced.

Cornerstone to the group’s success has been their drive to always move forward in their genre. Not happy to sit on the laurels of past achievements, the Cryptopsy sound is one that has been ever evolving and never more so that in the present here and now.

June 24th will see the release of the band’s newest studio offering The Unspoken King through Century Media Records. Although we are still more than a month away from the release of said album, it has already become the most controversial and talked about in their storied career thanks to the Internet.

Very early on in 2008, two extremely rough mixes of songs from the upcoming album found their way online without the band’s approval.

“I don’t know who, but someone got their hands on a copy and passed it along to someone who put them up [online] when they weren’t even mixed or finished,” explains Cryptopsy drummer and band spokesman Flo Mounier.

The songs were the first to see the light of day featuring their new vocalist Matt McGachy. Matt joined late in 2007 and replaces fan favourite Lord Worm, who departed amicably earlier in the year. The songs featured both clean and death metal vocals - a first for the band - and finds them switching musical extremes on a dime from introspective to grind, something that did not go over well on a number of metal message boards, chat groups and forums.

“It is pretty funny how big of an impact [the songs] had on some people,” says Mounier with a laugh. “There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism - or any criticism for that matter - but there were a lot of idiots that said a lot of stupid things that just should not have. If you don’t like something, just don’t listen to it. You don’t need to get rude or aggressive about it."
