Sky News has issued the following report from Matt Smith:

Hard rock band DEF LEPPARD have become the latest act to try to use a video game to sell their music.

The Sheffield band's new single 'Nine Lives', along with two other tracks, will feature in the new version of the game Guitar Hero in a bid to sell their music to a different market.

Times have changed since the band's record-selling heydays of the 80s and they don't want to be left behind.

"There's no MTV as a video channel any more," says frontman Joe Elliott. "So to get the same effect, you're looking at doing daytime TV."

And it's something they've done, performing on primetime programmes like Dancing With The Stars and the Jimmy Kimmel chat show.

But video games provide a whole new opportunity.

"It's always our goal to reach a new younger audience and grow an audience," says guitarist Vivian Campbell. "Guitar Hero's a perfect outlet because it really connects people with music in a different way."
