If things had worked out as planned, the band BOSTON would be on tour this summer with a new CD in stores. Brad Delp would be fronting the band as always, and probably sneaking in club gigs with his tribute band, BEATLE JUICE, whenever time allowed.

Delp’s suicide in March put an end to Boston’s plans, perhaps for good. But there will be a final bash on Sunday when a houseful of friends and band mates pay tribute to the much-liked singer with a concert dubbed “Come Together: A Tribute to the Life of Brad Delp.”

Along with guest sets by GODSMACK, EXTREME and FARRENHEIT, there will be an appearance by ERNIE & THE AUTOMATICS (featuring automotive honcho Ernie Boch Jr. backed by former Boston members Barry Goudreau and Sib Hashian) and sets by three bands that Delp fronted: Beatle Juice, the early-’90s band RTZ and, finally, Boston, which will close the night with an hourlong set.

“I haven’t stood on a stage in 32 years without Brad next to me and I can’t even imagine what it will be like to play music without him,” Boston’s guitarist and leader Tom Scholz said by e-mail.

While Boston has had offers to release live albums, DVDs and the new songs it was recording with Delp, remaining band members are taking things one day at a time. Not much for Sunday is set yet. Michael Sweet of Stryper will front the band this weekend and other guests are possible, though previously mentioned singers Sammy Hagar and Mickey Thomas have bowed out due to other commitments.

Along with Boston material, Sunday’s concert will feature songs by the other band closest to Delp’s heart, the Beatles. Delp saw them give what was for him a life-altering performance at Suffolk Downs in 1966 and was a lifelong Beatlemaniac.

“He made sure the Beatles were the soundtrack to my childhood,” his daughter, Jenna Delp, said earlier this week. “The first song I remember him teaching me on piano was ‘Martha My Dear.’ It took a few years before I realized he hadn’t written it.”

Now a filmmaker living in Los Angeles, Jenna will screen a short movie about her father’s life on Sunday.
