On Friday, June 29th the Key Club in West Hollywood, CA will host the final competition of this year’s fourteen city US Air Guitar Championship tour. This night will be the final chance for competitors to qualify for the national finals in August. Doors will open at 7:00 PM and tickets are available for $12 in advance - $14 day of the show - through the Key Club box office and www.ticketmaster.com.
The night’s festivities will be hosted by Bjorn Turoque (pronounced “Born To Rock”) – the star of Air Guitar Nation and author of To Air Is Human – and will find dozens of hopefuls vying for a chance to be crowned as 2007’s US Air Guitar Champion. Contestants will compete in two rounds of competition: in the first, each performer will perform to a song of their own choosing while the second will find the top competitors from round one accompanied by a surprise, compulsory song. One winner will then be chosen by the independent judges to represent Los Angeles at the national championships in New York City. The winner of the finals will then represent the United States at the World Championships in Oulu, Finland.
US Air Guitar is the official air guitar association of the United States and is devoted to taking an unofficial pastime out of the bedroom and putting it on the world stage. Entering its fifth year in the US and its eleventh year world-wide, US Air Guitar competitions have risen to national prominence thanks to a successful book and documentary film about the bourgeoning sport and its competitors.
