Rocker TED NUGENT put his star power to use at Waco High School on Monday night (September 11th) as he set off a bidding frenzy over an autographed acoustic guitar emblazoned with an American flag that he donated for a silent auction at the campus, where his son attends 11th grade. Nugent announced the donation during Waco High’s open-house session Monday and encouraged people to bid high to raise money for the Waco Independent School District Education Foundation. As of 2 p.m. Tuesday (September 12th), the guitar, a Trinity River dreadnought, had received 18 bids, topping out at $600. Lisa Saxenian, Waco High assistant principal, said she initially asked Nugent to donate an autographed photograph. Nugent, famous for hit songs such as 'Cat Scratch Fever' and 'Stranglehold', said he could do better than that, Saxenian said. Bidding on the guitar and several other items will end at noon Friday. The silent auction is one of several ongoing fundraisers for the Waco ISD Education Foundation at district campuses. To inquire about bidding on the guitar, email ddoerr@wacotrib.com.
