LUNAR MILE is a new UK outfit fronted by none other than TONY IOMMI’s daughter, Toni-Marie Iommi. Lead single ‘I Know’ has been burning up the net, and now, three years into their development, the band is ready to launch more of their groovy, riffy, and damn catchy music – again, cyber-bound at first…

“Yes, we’ve released it via our own website (www.lunarmile.com),” says Iommi. “So many bands are doing things themselves these days that we thought we would give it a go too. It’s also going to be up on iTunes really soon. We’ve had really good feedback, people seem to really be enjoying our sound and what we are. We are currently working on putting an album together. Fingers crossed, this year should be an exciting year for us in terms of releases.”

Asked for a description of the band’s sound, Toni-Marie says, “We have a collection of sounds from classic rock guitars to pop vox. We are energetic and have an edge of attitude. The EP is a taster of our core sound so to be honest, the album won’t be much different! But we keep improving within our writing, as every band does, so the guys are getting more comfortable expressing their musical ability throughout every song we write.

So things are very much in the embryo phase… “We haven’t set up a formal tour as of yet,” explains Iommi. “We’ve been concentrating on gigging throughout the West Midlands and creating a buzz locally. We’ve done some really good gigs in London as well though. And we’re supporting Blue Oyster Cult in the Midlands next month which we’re really excited about.

Asked about the writing process, Iommi remarks that “What gets me motivated to write depends on the mood I’m in, how the music makes me feel, or what’s going on in my life at the time. All the usual shit! My favourite track on the EP is ‘Get Over Yourself’. I love singing this particular track because it always gets the fire going in me. There’s a new track we’ve got, ‘Taking Everything’ which is very expressive and challenges my vocal ability. It’s got a great kick with lots of emotion. I also love ‘Sexy Enemy’ which we’ve been doing in our live set for about a year. I guess the reason for that would be because it’s really versatile – it’s got the contrast between soft verse and a hard-edged chorus.
Finally, did dad ever encourage you in the direction of rock, or a specific instrument?

“My dad is always supportive of what I do, in the same way as any parent would be, but he never forced me into a career in music or in any particular direction. I can play acoustic guitar and piano but am concentrating on singing and performing. Who knows in the future though!”
