Legendary drummer Carmine Appice (VANILLA FUDGE, ex-OZZY OSBOURNE, BLUE MURDER) was interviewed on Rock ‘N’ Roll Universe last month, and while discussing JIMI HENDRIX he quickly mentioned Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley’s band before they formed KISS, WICKED LESTER, as he was talking about Wicked Lester guitarist Ron Leejack (who played with Carmine in CACTUS for a little while – and is pictured here with Paul and Gene and the rest of Wicked Lester): “There was another guy that I used to play with, Ron Leejack, who ended up playing in Cactus, he played like Jimi. There were a couple of guys who played like that in New York, that fuzz tone, taking THE YARDBIRDS to the next level. Ron had an old Telly (Fender Telecaster), he’d get a couple pretty good sized amps then he’d cut holes in the speakers, and get the same type of sound that Jimi had. He never made it, except as part of Wicked Lester, which also had Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, and was in Cactus for a while. But he was a great player. He was in my band, we were called THURSDAY'S CHILDREN. We used to go around, we used to play opposite Hendrix.” Click here to read the entire interview.
