MOTÖRHEAD’s 20 Most Earthquaking Aftershocks: #15

Hot Flashes

By Martin Popoff and "Metal" Tim Henderson

In celebration of MOTÖRHEAD’s cannonating new slab Aftershock, BraveWords has decided to serve up a primer and reminder as to the 20 most shocking events in the life of Lem and Co! Conflate them, debate them... we’re presenting them in countdown form, until the day of quake, namely the record’s release date, October 22nd. So read on and soak in all the gruesome glory and historical heavy metal!

#15 - Lem gets the first of many career shocks when United Artists decides after all to release what was once supposed to be the debut Motörhead album. These 1975 sessions from Rockfield were shelved by UA, with Motörhead then moving on to Chiswick. The comparatively weak and polite collection was called On Parole, UA issuing it in December of '79, just as the band is getting traction with their new label and didn't need the distraction. The record causes no end of confusion amongst fans (remember, this is way pre-internet), some who think the band is suddenly and markedly losing its sense of mayhem.
