Here we go again! But where does the time go? It's seems like yesterday that we were ringing in 2012! Like last year, we're doing the same holiday-themed countdown of the finest slabs of metal this past year had to offer, voted by the devout scribes here at! Hence the name The 12 Days Of Metal. What does "slab" actually mean? We're talking studio albums. No compilations, rerecordings, live albums etc… Just pure metal, all killer, no filler!

These are the 12 albums (yeah, we still use that old school term!) that you must have in your collection!

Let's rock!

2012 … The 12 Days Of Metal

12) DYING FETUS – Reign Supreme (Relapse Records)

Reign Supreme featured nine tracks and is a "return to roots" with production focused slightly more on slam than in the band's last few works. Thematically, the album is set to be a good old-fashioned piece of social and political commentary in the style of Dying Fetus as we have come to know. The album landed spots on four of Billboard's charts. The album came in at #181 on the Top 200 Chart, #4 on the Heatseekers Chart, #14 on the Hard Music Chart and #31 on the Independent Chart.

In his review BraveWords scribe Greg Pratt wrote:

You just gotta give a bang of the head and a throw of the horns to Maryland’s DYING FETUS, surviving a crazy amount of lineup changes and witnessing the entire birth of a much-maligned microgenre that they themselves inspired, heavily. But while I don’t know one single metalhead who will admit to enjoying “slam” metal, everyone I know enjoys a good Dying Fetus jam. So, they’re doing something right and here on their seventh release, they keep doing exactly what they do best: insanely technical guitar riffs, high-speed blasting, huge grooves, and a love of pushing the limits of death/grind…
