In a new interview with OLIVER DAWSON SAXON, guitarist Graham Oliver talks about the glory days of SAXON and how the band influenced one of the greatest rockumentaries, This Is Spinal Tap. (One of its stars) “Harry (Shearer; aka bassist Derek Smalls) came out with us for a week,” recalls Oliver to Burtonmail.co.uk.
“We knew it was going to be a comedy film but other than that didn’t know much about it. Harry admitted his character was totally based on Steve Dawson and the bit where one of the band falls over on stage was based on what happened to me. We were playing at Hammersmith Odeon and I fell down and the roadie had to come on and pick me up - but I never stopped playing. It’s flattering, but the film is quite uncomfortable for me to watch, even today.”
