Costas Koulis at Rockpages.gr recently caught up with Germany's EMERGENCY GATE members Udo (guitars) and Mario (bass). An excerpt from the interview is available below.
Rockpages.gr : Your sound is so brutal yet so melodic. Would you say this elegant balance is your trademark, regarding your music?
Udo: "It for sure is a huge part of it. We try to keep the music interesting by using different styles mixed together. It‘s not our intention to make an album 100% melodic or 100% brutal. Of course Matthias’ variable voice helps us to mix everything together to have the Emergency Gate sound! (laughs)"
Rockpages.gr : 'Dark Side Of The Sun' features Tom Englund from EVERGREY. How did that cooperation come along?
Mario: "First time I met Thomas it was in 2007, we were supporting Evergrey in Munich, but the real friendship started in the fall of 2009. Evergrey booked me on their last tour as sound engineer and I traveled with them for the whole European tour. One evening, in the tourbus, Tom asked me what‘s up with my band and I showed him the 'Rewake' album. Thomas said 'Good stuff' and I said to him 'Thomas, you could do a track on the upcoming album' and he said 'Deal!' Well, after the instrumental recordings of The Nemesis Construct I listened to the song 'Dark Side Of The Sun' and I clearly saw Thomas’ voice in the chorus and middle part. I called Thomas and said 'Do it, man!' He listened to the song as well and said 'Great, let’s do it!' That’s the small story how EG meets EG."
