“Melody is one of the most important aspects for us when writing and listening to songs. It is what separates the men from the boys, music from noise,” AGE OF EVIL singer/guitarist Jeremy Goldberg tells BraveWords.com. Oh, and how true. Especially for this group of youngsters.

Mixing a mash of music that’s proved itself beyond belief to the metal world, Age Of Evil is probably best summed up as a no-bullshit, songs-come-first sort of band. And don’t forget that melody among the musicianship. “I think time is irrelevant when talking about classic metal and rock,” Goldberg tells us. “We didn’t start a band to stand out from the people who think they’re playing metal. We write and play music that has already stood the test of time, music that we enjoy and appreciate.”
After a few campaigns through Europe, a full-length, and armed with a sense of melody that could put AVENGED SEVENFOLD or TRIVIUM to shame, Age Of Evil releases Get Dead, the follow-up EP to the band’s previous full-length debut, though. Out now, this group of youngsters - and brothers - are hoping for some US touring…and so should you. But what's most important is the music on there. All of it, be it a few new songs, some cover tunes, and some live tracks. All of them reassure the listener about what Age Of Evil is out to accomplish.
“The idea of Get Dead is to show our fans and the world how we have evolved since our first album, what we sound like now and where we are going in the future,” Goldberg says. And how right he is. Whereas the first album, Living A Sick Dream, was more of a thrash-meets-solo extravaganza, Get Dead has two new originals showcasing the band’s knack for melody and song-writing craft – while still shredding! – along with two live tracks and a couple versions of songs that might be recognizable to metalheads: SKID ROW’s 'Slave To The Grind' and the PRIEST classic 'The Hellion/Electric Eye'.

While Get Dead might be limited to six songs, it does manage to showcase every shape and sound of Ages Of Evil. Inspirations, the live performance, and a couple new songs to let listeners know all is well as the foursome prepares for another full-length release makes for an eager listener awaiting more, rest assured. But all those dudes are young? And they can play that well? Oh, and they're two pairs of brothers - making the term Brothers In Arms (thanks, DIRE STRAITS!) more aptly applicable now than ever.
“We have a unique bond that doesn’t come around very often and it works to our advantage when writing music, touring, and everything else that comes with a band,” Goldberg told BraveWords.com about the tandem team of brothers that fills the ranks of Age of Evil. “Being brothers will carry on with us for the rest of our lives…Can’t get sick of it now, right?”
And sick of it they haven’t gotten yet. After four trips to Europe (“We had a lot of really great shows with JON OLIVA’S PAIN, TESLA, and SOULFLY,” Goldberg reassures), Age of Evil is trying to keep the flag for metal waving whilst taking that show on the road.
“People can count on us to keep the spirit of traditional heavy metal and rock alive,” Goldberg reassures us. But can you guys keep it alive in Europe, where they expect nothing but top notch performances? “Hmmm, four teenagers alone in Europe for 60 days where the drinking age is 16 and hookers are legal?,” Goldberg tells us. “It was awesome! But more importantly we proved that we can do this, no scratch that, we can dominate.”

And hopefully that translates into a live show for the Western Hemisphere-ers among us, because if North America needs anything, it’s a band with musical chops free of any of the twelve-hundred types of –core we can reference here. Can we expect some North American dates, though? “God I hope so," Goldberg BraveWords.com. "We really want to be playing the US right now [and] we are working hard on bringing you one less pig squealing ‘The End Is Never Tomorrow If I Die Today’ band. [We're] hoping for a tour early 2010 or summer 2010.”
If Get Dead and its predecessor, Living A Sick Dream, are any indications, the world probably hasn’t heard the last of Age of Evil. In fact, if they don’t hit a club nearby this writer, we all might be a bit bummed out. In the meantime, check them out on MySpace here.
