Vocalist Jizzy Pearl is featured in an interview with TheDailyTimes.com following his unexpected return to LA GUNS at the beginning of June. An excerpt from the story is available below:
By Steve Wildsmith
Singer Jizzy Pearl has only been back in LA Guns for two weeks, and already he sounds like a battle-hardened road dog.
Speaking from a venue in Connecticut, he pauses briefly to talk to The Daily Times as the rest of the band loads in for a Tuesday night show. Guitarist and band founder Tracii Guns has slipped off to the hotel; the rest of the guys try to make up for time lost in driving out of New York in a downpour.
It's just another day in the life of a band that rocks with one foot in the past and another in the present. That's not to say there's no future for LA Guns; only that the glory days of women and drugs and truckloads of cash are long gone. All Pearl and his bandmates have is right now -- this town, this gig, this one additional night to rock.
And while he sounds weary, he plans on making the most of it, he said.
"It's what we do for a living," he said. "I mean, how do those guys on 'The Deadliest Catch' do what they do? They dig deep. They've got soul. That's what we have, and that's 10 times better than anything else. We're all blue collar now. There are no more mansions or Learjets, so I think the fans that come to our shows these days appreciate that we're working twice as hard.
"Playing-wise, there's really no adjustment; I've just got to get used to the long days and the drinking. Everything changes, and we're not 20 years old anymore. We do a very blue-collar gig. There's a lot of driving, and it's harder in some ways -- but in other ways, it's more fun because you don't have this oppressive record label whipping you every 10 minutes and stealing all of your money."
