HARDWARES

PROMISCUITY

Basic Instinct

Israel's PROMISCUITY offer up some pleasant surprises on this debut EP (which follows up a demo and a single), the main surprise being this isn't harsh gory death metal, as the name, artwork, and song titles conspire to make absolutely everyone believe. Instead, it's more like something the scuzzbucket division of Hells Headbangers would release: a dirty, trashy, thrashy, Motörhead-loving four songs, filtered through crusty death metal sensibilities and an old-school, raw production sound. It's fun, and the cover of CELTIC FROST's 'Into The Crypts Of Rays' is an awesome touch. I could live without the "shocking" song titles and cover art, all of which really only works to cheapen the package and make these guys look sillier than they are. Hard to tell if the fun approach would work for a full-length splatter, but it's worth a shot, and in the meantime, this EP is worth checking out.
