TURBOCHILD

(Independent)

Reviewed by : Greg Pratt

Danish rockers TURBOCHILD are starting off on the right foot with this debut EP, which takes the hard rocking sensibilities of THE HELLACOPTERS but with that melodic '70's KISS vibe that IMPERIAL STATE ELECTRIC send off. Either way, it's a great time at the local dive bar, and in a real good sincere way, not a "look how glam rock we are" ironic sense: tunes like the raging 'Kings And Queens' or cool opener 'Heavy Thunder' show a band that definitely love their rock and roll, and are here to prove that. Still, as great as the tunes are, they don't really hang around the noggin' too long after this one's done, and I wonder if they will be able to incorporate enough dynamics to keep a full-length interesting; part of me doesn't doubt it, and that part of me very much looks forward to seeing what they come up with.
