CRITICAL SOLUTION

Evil Never Dies

Norwegian thrashers CRITICAL SOLUTION have released their debut full-length, a concept album about Wallace Green - a man who sails to Sad Hill, where he assassinates the king. After his own death, Wallace makes a deal with the devil to live again as the Soulmaker, spreading terror across the world. This 14-track affair was produced and mixed by KING DIAMOND guitarist Andy LaRocque at his Sonic Train Studios in Sweden. LaRocque and UGLY KID JOE vocalist Whitfield Crane guest on a rather standard cover of MOTÖRHEAD’s ‘Killed By Death’, after which LaRocque contributes to a spirited version of METALLICA’s ‘Seek & Destroy’. And that Metallica influence can be heard throughout the entire 66 minutes of Evil Never Dies; it seems as though Death Magnetic was used a blueprint for this work. Although vocalist and lead guitarist Christer Slettebo has a GUNS N’ ROSES tattoo on his right forearm, he is James Hetfield incarnate. Everything from his phrasing and enunciation, to song structure and solo fretwork is obviously derived from countless hours of Metallica worship. Such apparent mimicry completely masks the story being told. Although the songs are well written, flawlessly performed, and expertly recorded; at the end of it all what stands out most is the absolute lack of originality.
