KILL DIVISION

Destructive Force

(Metal Blade)

It's one of those situations where every review will mention it, but it's crazy not to: KILL DIVISION is made up of dudes who have spent time in ASPHYX, GOD DETHRONED, LEGION OF THE DAMNED, and INHUME, so you know the playing is up to par. I hear Asphyx here for sure in the ugly grinding death, but with some melodies and thrashier songwriting smarts not unlike God Dethroned or fellow Asphyx alum band HAIL OF BULLETS. The songs don't really stick in the head after it's done playing, but the infectiousness of thrash ragers like 'Fear Of Life' or more grinding death tunes like 'Made Of Lies' make this one quality album, the very concept of thrashy death with grind elements one that is usually done with success based on the awesomeness of the idea alone, and when it's delivered by a bunch of seasoned pros, you know it's going to be good. I love the slower, more haunting tracks too, like late-album wake-up-call 'Master Manipulator'. And while there's a lack of both personality and memorable songwriting preventing this band from being great, they're good, and they'll get there.
