EDEN’S CURSE

Symphony Of Sin

(AFM)

Reviewed by : Mark Gromen
Rating : 6.0

Pop prog? Progressive arena rock? Is it even possible? Despite often seeing the name on numerous trips overseas, never really paid much attention to EDEN’S CURSE, falsely believing they were a third tier German power metal outfit. In fact, they’re a prog leaning, keyboard laden, multi-national rock band based in the UK, similar to 70s stadium acts like JOURNEY, STYX or REO SPEEDWAGON. Lest you not understand the title, this baker’s dozen begins with the orchestral title track. Smooth throated, mid-tempo rock where the guitar takes a backseat to infectious (poppy?) rhythms and those omnipresent keys: ‘Break The Silence’. A lively ‘Unbreakable’ picks up the pace, while ‘Fallen From Grace’ and concluding ‘Where Is The Love’ both opt for acoustic guitar. Too often, frenetic starts are sapped of that momentum, only to fall back into a comfortable, laidback sound.
