HARDWARES

CORPSET

No Rest

(Violent Journey)

Reviewed by : Greg Pratt
Rating : 6.5

Finland thrashers CORPSET inject a good amount of melodic death into their neo-thrash sound here on their second album, end result arriving somewhere between bands like CARNAL FORGE and a heavier Swedish death sound. 'Lord Of The Flies' is perhaps the album's best showcasing of excellent riff work, majestic and brutal all at once, the sound nearing the Teutonic greatness of KREATOR at times, but always with that melody just at the edges of it all, and always with the death metal never far out of reach. Couple it together with the forgettable yet obtrusive yelled vocals, and it becomes a bit frustrating: you want these guys to use their considerable chops to really destroy, and the riffs themselves do (seriously, we're talking great guitar heroics here), but you're kinda pulling your hair out by the end of the album, wishing a more solid identity would emerge out of it all.
