TWILIGHT OF THE GODS

Fire On The Mountain

(Seasons Of Mist)

The prefix 'super' is used to describe things that are larger, more effective, more powerful, or more successful than usual. In metal, there exists a few of these prefixes kicking around, such as 'superheavy', and, of course, 'SUPERJOINT RITUAL'. Things start to get tricky when it is used in the context to describe a group of 'supermusicians' whom collaborate to form a 'supergroup'. How many of these groups have formed only to become 'supercasualties' of inflated egos and 'superattitudes'? While you ponder this seemingly neverending list, let me introduce you to metal's newest group of supermen, TWILIGHT OF THE GODS. Within its ranks are some of the finest metal has to offer. A group of men who have defined genres - leaders not followers. It's all but impossible to go wrong with experienced veterans such as PRIMORDIAL frontman Alan Averill (aka Nemtheanga), guitarists Patrik Lindgren from THYRFING and Rune Eriksen of AURA NOIR (ex-AVA INFERI and ex-MAYHEM), EINHERJER mastermind Frode Glesnes on bass, and drum wizard Nick Barker (LOCKUP, ex-CRADLE OF FILTH, ex-DIMMU BORGIR, ex-TESTAMENT). These celebrated musicians have created an album that speaks volumes about their sheer enthusiasm for fist-pumping, horn-throwing, headbanging heavy metal. Aptly titled Fire On The Mountain, it reflects the spirit and deep respect for the man that inspired its sound, that being one Quorthon of BATHORY fame. In fact, the guys even took their name from the sixth album of the Swedish legend and have performed Bathory cover shows. In addition to this shared love, there exists an everflowing stream of love for classic metal such as JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN, and MANOWAR. Upon further inspection, the whole affair actually reminded me of a 'supercharged', 'super old-school' Primordial - the epic passages, and Alan's 'superinfectious' voice blazing a path of fire and destruction across the mountains.
