HARDWARES

ONSLAUGHT

VI

(AFM)

Guess where the resurrected Englishmen got this title? After a 39 second Asian intro/flare (‘A New World Order’) things quickly give way to ‘Chaos Is King’, the first proper tune and an example of the ultra-punishing thrash they’ve plied since ’07 Killing Peace. This band really bears little resemblance to their 80s counterpart, for the better! Back in the day, the Brits couldn’t really compete on an international level (the Yanks, in particular scorching ‘em), Now older, wiser and probably more hungry, ONSLAUGHT understand the viciousness vs. catchy chorus dichotomy necessary to cut it, in the thrash game: eight songs in 39 minutes is definitely old school. A female, Middle Eastern voice starts ‘Children Of The Sand’, a heavy, but more groove offering. ‘Slaughterize’ bounces along, on an EXODUS style simplicity: with “Killing is my aim in life. Killing is my way of life” chorus. A music box begins/ends the rather ridiculously entitled ‘66Fuckin’6’, more restrained than the name would imply: certainly not a wall-to-wall barrage, like elsewhere on VI. ‘Cruci-Fiction’ even sports some ear candy noodling! ‘Dead Man Walking’ locks into a classic guitar shuffle. The concluding ‘Enemy Of My Enemy’ (Becomes My Friend) is a no nonsense brain rattler, up there with ‘Fuel For My Fire’, which appears earlier. Another quality slice of intensity.
