Misconception Of Hope

(Willowtip)

These Swedish grinders dropped their Willowtip debut, From Our Cold Dead Hands, back in 2010 and proved they were masters of that realm of grindcore where it all rules so hard when you're listening to it but you just can't remember a damn thing about it afterwards. Upon receiving this new one, I actually had to reference Metal Archives to see if I had ever heard the band before. Which is horrible (sorry, guys) and no fault of theirs: they have the huge production, chainsaw guitars, alternating screaming/growling vocals, whiplash groove, fast/faster tempos, and general grindcore energy down pat. And it's awesome, no doubt about it, these 19 songs perhaps blurring together into one, and perhaps not about to leave any kind of lasting impression (the punk riff on 'Lacking Relevance' just might, actually, as well the slower part of '.44 Caliber Salvation'), but still ripping face hard, the band operating in a world where NASUM and ROTTEN SOUND are just the absolute apex pinnacle of supreme musical awesomeness, which is more or less a utopian society. Not all music has to have hooks and be memorable to be great; this album is proof of that.
