HARDWARES

FUMIGATION

Integrated Pest Management

Fun times from Ottawa here, this death metal band seemingly playing it straight, but upon further investigation a pest management theme is detected, which is fun. Why not? Check out opener 'Cranofacial Duplication' to see if you want to further enter the, uh, household pest aisle of doom here, the tune sounding like good modern east coast USDM, with some slower sludge in there. Elsewhere, there's groove, there's pure death, there's definitely an old-school vibe despite some almost deathcore squealies and sounds. And for the most part, this isn't death metal of the grinding, blasting variety, it's a bit slower, more interested in atmosphere than blasting. 'Don't Let The Bedbugs Bite' crawls along at a dastardly slow speed, bass up nice and high in the mix, riffs labyrinthine but not technical; when the guitar solo hits it's triumphant like Heartwork, which is rare in death metal. Man, this is good, tight, solid stuff, a bit faceless at points but if they focus on those sludgey parts mixed with the soaring solos they could craft a neat identity of their own out there. Hopefully the fun novelty works for them and not against them as they struggle to be seen and heard in this busiest of subgenres.
