ADE

Spartacus

(Blast Head)

Reviewed by : Greg Pratt
Rating : 8.5

Italy's ADE are ready for the death metal big leagues with their second album, the band enlisting the help of NILE drummer George Kollias this time out for some extra punch. And extra punches are all over the place here, this album doing the grinding death metal shuffle as well as the slower one-step sludge crawl perfectly, shades of MORBID ANGEL, HATE ETERNAL and Kollias' day job everywhere on this 42-minute disc. For an under-the-radar Italian band on a micro indie, everything about this is shockingly pro, from the production to the songwriting to the overall sense of accomplishment the sonics have and confidently display. Tunes like the excellent 'Crixius Flags Of Dishonor' have both a whiplash groove and a furious death metal grind to them, while the band's obvious technical skills are apparent throughout the album, yet, wisely, held back with an impressive and mature restraint. This one is going to turn some death metal heads, no doubt about it.
