LOGIC OF DENIAL

Atonement

(Comatose Music)

Italian death metal dudes LOGIC OF DENIAL are on album number two, and, wow, are they ever turning into the little band that could, here giving ORIGIN a run for their money in the realm of tight, technical, high-strung death metal that favours treble-y fun over bass-y crunch. They can do the low and slow thing just fine (see 'Sepsis') but they do the insane fast and technical thing even better (see the rest of the album, and some of 'Sepsis'). And, you know, it's impressive that at the 0:37 point of the awesomely named 'Oracle Of Iniquity' there's a quick stop/start that actually startled me, and my ears have heard more quick stops and starts in death metal than any mortal's ever should. Sure, they lack personality (this is technical death metal, after all), and could really be any one of a number of bands splitting minds and atoms with their sonics, but they've got just a little something setting them above, that extra pound of heaviness, that extra bit of restraint, the killer production, the feeling that, yes, this could be the next tech-death band to watch, given the right label backing them up and a killer opening slot or two on some knuckle-dragging hellfests hitting the local scuzz tavern.
