BLOOD TSUNAMI

For Faen!

(Indie Recordings)

Reviewed by : Greg Pratt
Rating : 8.0

Finally, Norway's BLOOD TSUNAMI get some cover art that matches their sonics, this black and white jean-jacket-ready design perfectly suiting the Teutonic terror thrash enclosed within, these 31 minutes being nothing if not a raging horns-held-high salute to DESTRUCTION, SODOM, and early KREATOR, with some SLAYER-iffic riffing enclosed as well (see opener 'The Butcher Of Rostov', which also includes some great tongue-rolling, and closer 'Krokodil', which I can only hope is about a killer crocodile). The raw production and no-smiles attitude (even during metal-is-funny-but-don't-you-dare-laugh-at-it songs like 'Metal Fang') totally boost this one over the heads of any of today's "fun" retro thrash bands, this one going for the throat in a totally intense fashion that brings to mind, again, those German legends and Slayer in a big, good, way. The band's first two albums had a tendency to be great but hard to warm up to, which is not the case here, as this one is both great and invites the listener back for more when the time is right.
