UNDERSAVE? One of the less threatening death metal band names out there, but this Portugese band lays down a surprisingly professional and adequately intense sound on this insanely titled full-length. Not rewriting the rule book, Undersave instead plays a perfectly fine-tuned version of modern American death metal, blasting, twisting, turning, grinding, ending up more in the “tech” side of things that the trad side, but never afraid to lay down some simplistic Floridian death grooves or slow sludge stretches when they feel the time is right. This is so well done and features such a thick, solid production that this band could easily end up on Unique Leader or maybe even Willowtip next time around. Not sure why they feel the songs need to be so damn long (four of the seven tracks are over seven minutes), but apart from that, this is very quality stuff and really top notch, again, kinda surprising given the locale and the indie label, but there’s a sign of the times for ya.
