France's ERYN NON DAE offers the type of ruinous propositions CULT OF LUNA's early work was so effective at conveying and, in a sense, Eryn Non Dae has taken control of the highly flammable torch to lead another examination of those bleak and despondent visions of disorder. Where Eryn Non Dae differs, however, is in its use of surprisingly versatile dynamic and range, the group writing in ways that might make the obscenely underrated NOSTROMO jealous, while at times even evoking and embedding the non-conformist spirit of DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN. Meliora is a record that has an absurd amount of ideas to offer, the effort clearly the process of connoisseurs writing for connoisseurs, as the album is a nod to the energy expended and subsequent reward that is underground metal. Much like Norway's impressive LAKEI, Eryn Non Dae is taking paradigms and boulevards we thought were clearly and neatly mapped out and showing us the alternate routes that are far more affirming experiences.
