Former THEATRE OF TRAGEDY and current LEAVES’ EYE’s vocalist LIV KRISTINE’s fourth solo venture, Libertine, sees the Norwegian beauty with the soprano voice don more of a rock-based sound that ventures from her bombastic, symphonic sound of her day job. Produced by husband Alexander Krull, it boasts 11 tracks of melodically-crafted rock songs and a few piano-driven ballads. If you’re not a typical fan of Leaves’ Eyes, then you’ll be pleasantly surprised with Libertine. Liv creates splendid melodies with layered vocal harmonies on standout tracks 'interlude', 'Solve Me' and the title track. 'Vanilla Skin Delight' is a duet with the winner of the German version of Pop Idol, Tobias Regner. It’s pop-ish verses and infectious chorus is quite delightful. Sympathetic love song 'Wait for Rain' combines rim shots, a snazzy beat and a twangy lead guitar melody. On 'Paris Paris', rock meets melodic pop with catchy hooks and an almost BLONDIE new wave-ish vibe. Libertine is so melodic and catchy that even the most hardened metalhead will have difficulty not finding something enjoyable about it.
