VULTURE Oblivious To Ruin (Innervenus) Reviewed by : Greg Pratt Rating : 8.0

Nice little surprise here, Pittsburgh doom/stoner quintet VULTURE popping up out of nowhere and delivering the sludge goods, big time. On their debut, they immediately establish themselves with the WEEDEATERS of the world, right at the top of the second tier of this kind of nasty, NOLA-infected doom/sludge. Like a lot of those bands (BUZZOVEN, EYEHATEGOD, etc.), Vulture really shine when the “rock” kicks in and the tempos “speed up” and it’s like the horrible, glorious underbelly of SKYNYRD fed through some CROWBAR rehearsal tapes, which themselves were dubbed over old ZOROASTER demos. And as a testament to how good this is, this one originally sat at a 7.5, but went up to an 8.0 as the album went on, and threatened to go even higher. Sludge/doom fans need to seek this one out.
