MÖTLEY CRÜE

Greate$t Hit$

(Mötley Records)

Reviewed by : Aaron Small
Rating : 8.0

Initially released in 1998, Mötley Crüe’s Greate$t Hit$ has been revamped and reissued. Housed in a new slipcase, once that’s removed, the original cartoon cover is still there, albeit the hue has been changed from beige to crimson. Although the two discs appear to be quite similar, the tracklistings are decidedly different. ‘Bitter Pill’ and ‘Enslaved’, which began the original version, remain exclusive to that album. The 1998 edition contained 17 songs. The total in 2009 has been upped to 19; although 13 tracks do overlap between the two, the running order has been shaken up. Gone is the atrocious ‘Glitter’ remix and ‘Shout At The Devil ‘97’. Added in their place are the classic ‘Shout At The Devil’, ‘Too Young To Fall In Love ’, ‘Sick Love Song’, ‘If I Die Tomorrow’, ‘Saints Of Los Angeles’ and a new remix of ‘The Animal In Me’. If purchased at Best Buy, Greate$t Hit$ comes with a bonus 20-minute DVD filmed this past summer on Crüe Fest 2. It showcases behind the scenes footage, interviews with the band as well as live clips including Sevendust’s Morgan Rose filling in for drummer Tommy Lee – who was sidelined due to a fireworks mishap. One could argue that with Decade Of Decadence, The Best Of Mötley Crüe, Red, White & Crüe and Music To Crash Your Car To Volumes I and II already highlighting Mötley’s finest musical moments, decking Greate$t Hit$ out in new attire was unnecessary. But ‘tis the season when Girls, Girls, Girls turns to Ho, Ho, Ho and this makes a fine stocking stuffer.
