SINNERCrash And Burn(AFM)Reviewed by : Mark Gromen Rating : 7.5 |
|
The latest from Mat Sinner, surrounding himself with past and present members of his other employer, Primal Fear, is a collection of 11 straight-ahead blues-based hard rock and metal tunes (an extra pair on the digipak). At times his intonations mimic those of the late Phil Lynott, who also pulled double duty on bass and vocals. Check out ‘Connection’ and ‘Unbreakable’ – the latter’s lyric seems an ode to the late Thin Lizzy frontman. Air raid sirens announce the introductory title track, a fast mover and the disc’s heaviest moment, although ‘Fist To Face’ gives it a run for its money, on both accounts. On the opposite extreme is the mid-tempo acoustic-begun ‘Until It Hurts’. Tambourine, cowbell and cock rock strut characterize the female-backed ‘Revolution’. Talk about cock rock, check out the tongue-in-cheek ‘Little Head’. Fun diversion.
