CIRCLE II CIRCLE

So Many Reasons

(Locomotive)

Reviewed by : Mark Gromen
Rating : 7.0

The three song single, backed with an exclusive bonus, the live 3:02 video for ‘Evermore’ from ProgPower 2006 (varies between onstage footage, including overhead shots, and pre-gig setup), is a teaser for the full-length Delusions Of Grandeur, due June 24th. In case you’re out of the loop (circle?) this is former Savatage singer, Zack Stevens’ project. The titular opener is a great metal track, devoid of suggestions where he came from. Those influences are pronounced on ‘Every Last Thing’, offered in edited (4:55) form and the extended keyboard intro’ed album version (7:22). Those longing for his days in ‘Tage should be quelled by said number. The lone non-album inclusion, ‘Darkness Rising’ begins very modern, with modulated vocals and is only saved by some spirited guitar work. Begai bashed the full-length, so perhaps these are the best moments therein. I’ll reserve judgment.
