 Re: Fitness Thread (2013 Edition!)
Changed up my leg program this year, and finally got some good results. thought I'd post it here. I really never benefited from squats, despite the maxim that you must squat (if you don't squat, you aint squat, etc.). Biomechanically, it's not a movement that makes a lot of sense, especially with a huge load up on your upper back. It's not the intent of the cervical spine to bear that load.
Leg press, biomechanically, makes a lot more sense. I started investigating routines involving mostly pressing, and I came upon the '20's method'.
It's pretty simple, but brutally effective.
you start with one plate per side, and do 20 reps. each successive set, you add one plate per side, and do 20 reps. You continue doing this until, at maximum exertion, you cannot do 20 reps...you fail just short, hopefully. Then, you strip off one plate per side, and try to do 20. And you keep doing this until you're pretty much brutalized.
I sometimes finish with leg extensions or lunges. But after that, really, sometimes I just shuffle home.
Thought I'd share that, esp. for the guys with bad lower backs, or who really aren't responding to squats.

 Re: Fitness Thread (2013 Edition!)
Listen to Stallionforce. He is wise ( thanks for the pointers btw) So after 3 bullshit injuries and 2 surgeries over the past few years, along with some other oh so fun life events, I'm back on track and pain free. Had hernia surgery last may and started slowly getting back into shape. I'd lost almost 25 lbs due to pain from the hernia and a fuck of a lot of stress. But it's all good now and I'm able to go full tilt ( i still take it a bit easy haha) So I'm gonna whore myself with a photo. I'm also thinking about doing the Tough Mudder event this september ( May is too soon) So I'm semi training for it even if I don't do it.

My fave right now: Mutant's "Mayhem" Green Apple Thanks man, i still have a log way to go.! I haven't used any type of prework outs in a while, but out of the ones that I have tried and liked are Jack3d and 1MR.

 Re: Fitness Thread (2013 Edition!)
Do these pre-workouts actually do what they claim, or is it like drinking a 6 pack of "energy" drinks?

 Re: Fitness Thread (2013 Edition!)
pretty good. this was me monday night (flexed obviously) just firming up all over, shoulders and legs especially, and i'm losing a lot of abdominal fat. my belly is still there a bit, and love handles, but they're shrinking and that's awesome. i like the fact that it mixes it up a lot- there are a hundred exercises and you do a different one every night. some of them are strength-oriented, some of them are meant to be dynamic and explosive, some are endurance-oriented. all are brutal and awesome. my eating has really improved too, i'm not buying my lunch as often, but bringing good, home-cooked meals to work. lots of lean protein and good veggies and brown rice and oatmeal for breakfast. overall i just feel really healthy. also i've seriously cut down on my beer intake, which SUCKS FUCKING BALLS AND I HATE IT

 Re: Fitness Thread (2013 Edition!)
Guapo: My brother did the tough mudder in Barrie last year and he said it was awesome. I did a mini one at Bolar mountain and it was also pretty sweet good team environment.
Robo I also find that bringing home cooked meals for lunch rather than eating out has definitely helped in the healthy department as well.
BB dudes lookin unstoppable!

My fave right now: Mutant's "Mayhem" Green Apple I've been using Beast Nutrition's "Beast Mode" for a little over a month. I started w/ a quarter dose b/c some preworkouts destroy me - so jittery I can't focus enough to lift safely. Beast Mode doesn't do that - it's a very clean, energetic feeling. I worked my way up the full dose gradually.

 Re: Fitness Thread (2013 Edition!)
Robofist pure viking warrior. Awesome. I find preworkouts differ radically. Jack3d, for example, does just that, so fi you don't like that feel, stay away. 1MR is perhaps the most 'jittery' of them all. Some like Kotic and Mayhem are more smooth. Sounds like Beast is that way too. And some like NO Xplode are right down the middle. I am preferring NO Xplode right now. A good preworkout will give you a solid pump as well as energy rush. Ont he workout front, been doing a lot of drop sets and supersets lately, really crashing the failure barrier. Will ahve to pull back soon.

The first workput, I felt on top of the world. And then every workout afterwards, I felt it less and less. Wasn't able to get that original high.

 Re: Fitness Thread (2013 Edition!)
well i don't expect i'll ever be as toight as some of you dudes (good work to all you fuckers btw), i'm eating well and for the most part maintaining my weight loss for the last 3 years. i've been up and down a little, but i was over 300 lbs at the time and today i dipped below 250 for the first time in awhile. if i could drop another 30 lbs eventually, i think i'd be pretty happy. even happier if i could lose more, lol.

Thanks dudes Feels good! RyanJD wrote: Robo I also find that bringing home cooked meals for lunch rather than eating out has definitely helped in the healthy department as well. For sure man. There's just so much about it that helps. Controlling exactly what goes into my body makes such a difference. Even when I snack or have a beer or whatever, at least I'm aware of it. Buying lunch, you really don't know! I don't know what you weighed as a lad but you're about as broad as a panel van, so if you were 220 you'd be one skinny fuck! Also, congrats! I have noticed the phenomenon of The Incredible Shrinking FIS since we first met- you're doing really awesome man.
