Can't really afford a gym right now. Decided I'm going to start doing body weight exercises at home for the time being.

Any suggestions for exercises to do? I already have a few in mind.

Squats, lunges, burpees, mountain climbers, any complex motions that involve different parts of your body. And running! I forget who it was but I recently heard someone say, "why the fuck would you join the gym just to run on a treadmill? you can do that outside for free, without the shitty music!"

running sucks but it's the best exercise for shedding poundage.

Fuck, I'd love to do that though -- wings and nachos night, every night! lol

And think of the breakfast "smoothies"...yikes.

i actually had fish for dinner tonight.

that might not sound like a big deal, but it's the first time EVER in my 45 years of existence that i've had a meal of fish that wasn't battered and deep fried, so it's an important step. and it was pretty damn satisfying, i'm gonna' start having it regularly.

for some reason i've never been able to get myself to eat fish but my eating habits have been mostly good for the last few years (very little processed food, lots of veggies i didn't eat before, low carbs, started drinking only water etc), and it was something i've been promising myself i'd do. one of the reasons i get turned off by fish is that they always smell rancid to me, lol.

what i had tonight was tilapia, super mild, really had no odour or even much taste other than a little spicing up that i did to it. i'm really looking forward to having it again and be over this stupid fish phobia i've had all my life, lol.

like i said, it probably seems like a ridiculous thing to those who have always eaten fish, but i've made it over the hump and i'm a big boy now :)

This is why most people think they don't like fish.

Chef rule: If it smells "fishy", skip it and go with a steak.

Fish should smell like the ocean (or whatever water they came from).

But unfortunately, lots of us grew up in homes with parents and grandparents that would cook "fresh" fish that was a week old and had NO business being eaten. The kind that stunk up the whole house for days after cooking.

It actually wasn't until I was in my late 20s going to culinary school that I realized fish can actually be really fuckin' good.

If truly fresh fish is hard to come by in your grocery store, check for the frozen stuff (not the pre-breaded, pre-cooked crap haha). Most stores now carry fish filets/steaks that were flash-frozen right after being caught, so they're super fresh. My store carries a whole bunch - tilapia, tuna, salmon, grouper, mahi mahi, etc (in fact, I had the tuna last night). To defrost, just place it in a large bowl filled with cold water. It'll be ready to cook in less than an hour.

A few years ago, back when I never thought I could never deal with a gym and all it's inhabitants, I often wondered why I shouldn't just go out into the woods and start moving boulders and chucking tree trunks around to get into shape (hell, I still wonder this).

And now there's a program based on this? Of course there is haha...but, awesome!

I'd love to do something like this, but there's pretty big lack of woods within my direct vicinity (or at least an area out of sight enough so people can't see me slugging around with a tree on my shoulders haha), and it just generally seems totally impractical. If I ever own a house with some land though...boy howdy will I make this a reality!

Speaking of things that are completely the OPPOSITE of the Centurion Method...

I bought Nike Kinect Training for ye olde Xbox this weekend.

I know, I know...a video game for getting fit? Yeah, sorta. It's like we're living in the future!

I'm shocked at how 'real deal' that shit is though. Since I got serious about fitness a couple years ago, no cardio I've done has come anywhere NEAR what one of these workouts did. Maybe that's just my fault for not picking better cardio exercises, but whatever...no elliptical/treadmill/HIIT regimine has ever kicked my ass as much as this did.

And all I've done so far? A 15 minute fitness test, and a 15 minute sample workout (that I could BARELY finish - I'm still sore as hell now...3 days later).

This won't replace the gym for me, but it's DEFINITELY going to be my cardio go-to. FUCK dealing with the chicken soup-smelling cardio area in my gym from now on.

If your main goal is to burn fat, then "acquire" Beachbody Insanity. There's also some muscle training in it, but cardio is its primary focus. And yes, it is insane. Especially for fat fuckers like me.

I live right downtown, so it's kind of a bummer that I can't practice it in its purest form, but the exercises can be easily translated into boring, regular-ass workouts. It's a lot of complex movements (I have done so many fucking burpees this past month...) and some unorthodox stuff that you might need a yard for. I have a little yard out back, so I'm able to do stuff like, "hold a 20 lb weight up. throw it as hard as possible into the ground. repeat one hundred times." good stuff :8D:

I've committed to losing at least another 50lbs for 2013. That will put me under 200lbs for the first time since my freshman year of high school.

Kettlebells & hindu squats ftw :m: :m: :m: :m:

BMD shitty about your luck but as Robo said there are tones of ways to maximize your workout at home.

Does anyone here take fish oil pills or on any supplements?

I currently take a multivitamin vitamin d fish oils and whey protein produced from Ontario that has a ton of nutrients in it.

That being said is there any other supplements anyone would recommend using? I have heard good things about oregano tablets anyone had experiences with them?

It depends on how serious you are about working out. If you're serious about working out and do it on a regular basis check out:

https://www.onnit.com/shroomtech-sport/ ... 4AodVGIAsw

Onnit.com has a lot of other workout supplements too.

Oh, definitely. I plan on starting the new routine as soon as this cold/sore throat are gone. I'd hate to make this crap last any longer than it needs.

That depends on your goals and your particular situation (age, body type, diet, genetics). If you are getting enough protein from your diet already taking extra powders will only result in expensive urine and more fat. There is only so much your body needs. So take my advice in a generalized way, it might not all be useful to you specifically.

If you are looking for general wellness, multivits/minerals, DHEA/Omega3 oils, and greens/algae are the usual standbys. If you are over 35 and male you should be concerned about your cardiovascular, prostate and hormonal health. Things like lycopene and pgynocenol and grape seed are used to improve your circulation and fight free radicals. Whether you need them or not depends on your lifestyle and diet. If you are concerned about your testosterone level, you can use horny goat weed or maca. They are mild safe tonics. Don't expect steroid level effect, just a mild boost if you're aging.

If your goal is to cut weight, make sure you have the core nutrients you need to metabolize fat. Chromium picolinate, and other essential minerals. Use fat burners with caution. They can mess with your cardiac rhythm and nerves. Many of them are based on stimulants like ephedrine, caffeine and guarana.

If you goal is beefing up, the first thing you need is Creatine. It's a naturally occurring substance that allows your muscles to operate at peak performance. You already get some from your diet, but you'll need more if you do heavy lifting. I do use protein powders, but I am vegan so I use soy/pea/hemp/rice type powders, not whey.

I personally use pre-workout mixes. It's usually a combination of stimulants and arginine to get the blood pumping. A lot of them are heavily caffeinated so they might not feel good for everyone. I use 1MR and I add a hit of geranium to it. It used to be a part of the product until health Canada prohibited selling them as a stack. Now you need to buy them separately. Apparently some soldiers in the US had cardiac arrests from abusing this combo. I like it, but don't use it late in the day. It will fuck up your sleep.

Lastly, some guys use sleep enhancing products. Good deep sleep is crucial for recovery and growth. That's when muscles get rebuilt after being punished at the gym, and that's when your body produces growth hormones. It's usually some herbal relaxation aids stuff like valerian and kava kava, or melatonin to deepen your sleep. If you sleep well already, you don't need it.

It's a huge industry and professional body builders or serious hobbyists can spend a lot of money on supplements. Make sure you get what you really need because it can become a bottomless pit of spending.

And most importantly make sure you eat healthy. The majority of nutrients should come from your diet. Supplements are only boosts to a good healthy lifestyle.
