The Winter Beard is okay, but in regards to aging, i think it may be right on that line of 'is it strong enough'? I think it's 8% so i think that's a little low for aging myself. Others who may know more may have differing opinions. It's also not a 'live' beer as far as I know, which hurts the aging for weaker beers, basically the beer will go bad. Chimay Red is a bottle conditioned 'live yeast' beer at 7% and can age for years.
If it were me, i wouldn't age the Winter Beard for all that long, but i would think it should be fine for a year if it's cool enough. The Winter Beard says up to 2 years. I'll try one of them after a year and see how it is. That'll affect my decision on how long to keep the second bottle. That sounds about right for a beer like that at 8%. I still personally wouldn't, but maybe i should, since i wasn't a big fan of it fresh. It wasn't bad. I was probably just angry at paying over 10 bucks for it.

I had the Propeller Revolution recently. I gave it a pretty decent review on here, but I've had it since and I'm not sure if I share the same opinion as before. Tasted kind lake-water'ish. Let me know if you find the same thing. .. please? I'll let you know my thoughts when I get into it. Hoping it doesn't taste lake waterish

Re: NOW DRINKING - BEER SNOBBERY VOL. 4
Finally picked up the Nogne O collection. I was pretty excited for it, but this one was a very strange beer and I'm not sure i liked it all that much. It seemed like there was a little too much going on. Decent, but not even close to the level of the following... This one is was a complete surprise to me. I wasn't sure what to expect from a Norwegian IPA. It says double, but as the label says, it really isn't a double. It was an exceptional take on the style, and a bottle I will buy again a few times over to enjoy. Everything you could possibly want in an IPA, with a higher ABV. Fantastic.

The idea of aging beer seems like an impossibility to me. I have no idea how I could just let a bottle of beer sit there for more than a week.

Anhur wrote: The Founders Imperial Stout was unlike any beer that I had ever had. It pours like motor oil, but goes down like liquid silk. It’s a perfectly balanced stout flavor wise, and the only thing close to bad that I can say about it is that I probably couldn’t drink more than two in one sitting. I highly recommend this one to anybody that can get a hold of it. I've been looking forward to this for a while, and your review has me watering at the mouth. So excited to get this.

It was pretty intense. I wouldn't session that beer, that's for sure. I don't think I would age it either just because of how strong the taste is, but I'm most-likely completely wrong and it probably should be aged. I have one at home. It's an Eggenberg. I didn't like the one they released here last year very much, but i had to buy this one at 14% for a dopplebock. At least the Mikeller Frelser (which i still haven't opened yet) from last year had the decency to call itself a 'triplebock'. I'd say you can age it for sure at that strength. I've aged the Mikeller, and will probably open it in a month or two so it will have been aged a year. I think you got something I don't even have. Mine is an ale and the title starts with an M. I'll get back to you.

Re: NOW DRINKING - BEER SNOBBERY VOL. 4
Tried a few new ones recently. Excellent beer. Great hop flavor without overpowering the malts, and a fantastic aroma. Saw this on the shelf and there was no way I was leaving without it. It basically just tasted like a decent dry stout. Towards the end, once it had warmed a little, the flavors changed somewhat and started to exhibit a slight strangeness which is likely from the oysters. Was a fun experiment but I don't think I'd go back to it.

Blasphomet wrote: Almost bought the Pothole Filler the other day. But I haven't heard very glowing things about it and at that price, well, it's Canada fucking us in the ass with beer brewed in own country yet again.
I'm quite curious how beer like the Gouden Carolus Cuvee Van De Keizer Blauw at 11% ABV from Belgium, a truly world class beer, is 3 dollars less that something like Unibroue Le Terrible, and 5 dollars less than the fucking Pothole Filler. Everything here is so fucking backwards.
I can understand the price of the BNL chocolate stout, sort of, because it's limited and the presentation is great, and it's a solid, solid fucking interesting beer, but some of these others from Canada are so overpriced it's sickening.
The Nickel Brook Cuvee is worth it's $10 though.
In further regards to the Pothole Filler... how can you justify the price tag of $12 for 1000ml compared to yet another world class beer, the Brooklyn Black Chocolate Imperial Stout, at $2.65 for 341ml? Do the math. Brooklyn = great deal form a superb brew. Pothole = assraping for no better than average. I will not be buying the pothole filler. It's funny because I remember hearing so much about Howe Sound's "Pumpkineater" and was dissapointed after drinking it that I figured maybe it was a one-off. So I bought the Pothole Filler based on the reviews being pretty good that I read. After drinking it, while it was good, I can't see myself trying any more of their brews without a serious price reduction. You're right dude, it's fucking highway robbery, and I think people will start to revolt. However the Shipyard Imperial Porter I feel is worth the 7.95 it costs, so I have no problem paying for that.

The Nickel Brook Cuvee and the Gouden Carolus Cuvee Van De Keizer Blauw are both my top two favorite beers for 2012. I agree with you on prices. They have been fucking us for a long time and they will continue to do so. Especially with having in mind that there's a high demand for craft brews now. 4 years ago they wouldn't even sell it. Then again, Red Racer IPA is from B.C. and it's only 3 bucks, and it's fucking world-class, so that's a small victory I guess.

Yeah but the Shipyard brews are imported from the states, so that is to be expected. Another example is the Southern Tier IPA. One of the best we get in the LCBO. It's from the states and comes in at under $13 a six pack, where as the Flying Monkey Smash Bomb, while also a great beer, is over $13. The Howe Sound beer is WAY WAY over priced for it's quality though. We pay more for our own craft beer that we do for imported stuff, and it doesn't makes sense, since most of our own craft beer isn't nearly as good as the imported stuff.

You need to do another NY beer run. We have Founders here now, and unless I missed it I don't think that you have had any of them yet.

I want to head down there again but it will probably be over the spring and summer again. Autumn and Winter are the best seasons for us at our liquor stores so I haven't felt the need to head down there. There is enough stuff here to keep me busy.

Re: NOW DRINKING - BEER SNOBBERY VOL. 4
good story: mom & Dad went o Canada many years ago & brought me back a 24 pack of molsen XXX black & silver bottles. to make a long story short: I remember going to the bathroom 1 last time.......then the wife was kicking my feet to wake me about 8:30 a.m., i passed out in my chair, pissed myself, left the poor schnauzer out all night in freezing rain, had 3 tickets on my door for dog barking disturbance violations, and left over 100 dollars of food out on the counter to spoil. wife is still busting my balls on this. good times
