Re: 2012 Baseball Free Agency Thread
Reds, Indians and D-Backs swung a biggie:
Reds get Shin-Soo Choo and Jason Donald
D-Backs get Tony Sipp, Lars Anderson, Didi Gregorius and $3.5 million from Indians
Indians get Trevor Bauer, Drew Stubbs, Matt Albers, Bryan Shaw

Re: 2012 Baseball Free Agency Thread
If they pick up Swisher to fill the hole in right field, this will have been one of the best off-seasons the team has had in years.

Only downside being between Reynolds and Stubbs you now have the league leaders in strikeouts for both leagues on one team. Add Swisher to the mix and you might hit 100 home runs as a team but no one's getting on base.

Re: 2012 Baseball Free Agency Thread
Yeah neither Reynolds nor Stubbs have the high OBP you usually like to see to negate high K totals. Stubbs will steal some bases, though.

But considering Reynold's price (one-year, $6 million, with incentives that could push it a little over $7 million) I'm not going to complain too much. In fact, he could be a better Adam Dunn impersonation than Dunn himself considering Reynold's solid defense. Stubbs is really the same thing; there's power potential here, but he makes his hay defensively. And maybe a change of scenery will help reset him offensively. But this trade isn't about Stubbs. It's about Bauer and his potential.

Can someone explain to me the Rule 5 draft? I can't seem to wrap my head around the definitions online.

Re: 2012 Baseball Free Agency Thread
Essentially, it's a draft for guys who are buried and might not be able to advance through the system he's stuck in. The catch is that, if the guy you select does not make your big league roster, you must return the player to the team you picked him from. It happens every year during the Winter Meetings.

Re: 2012 Baseball Free Agency Thread
The Jays are after R.A. Dickey right this moment... Travis D'Arnaud is the main trading piece.
AA is pulling all the stops to make the Jays a playoff team next year.
