Re: NOW DRINKING - BEER SNOBBERY VOL. 4
Since you posted about Cider, I'm gonna post about some mead. I enjoy a glass of this each Friday night whilst Lynne and I watch American Horror Story. And I fucking love it! I've also been meaning to ask Anhur what he thought about a hoppy mead, as these bastards at B. Nektar have made one. http://www.bnektar.com/mead/draft-sessi ... enius.html

It was better when they didn't slap a little sticker over the top of the box to prevent opening them up to grab the seasonal beer. Now I feel obliged to buy the whole box. Also, at the mention of Pliny by Birdog... what i would do to get my hands on the Younger or Elder!

I did pass on Le Terrible as it was comparable to wine, and I hate wine, so unless I hear glowing reviews, I'll probably be staying away from it. The beer guy there (who seems to know his stuff) told me that the Double Mad Tom IPA sold out in almost two days and he doesn't know when more is coming in, so you can tell how popular it is already. He also suggested to me the Great Lakes Black IPA, but I didn't wanna pay 10 bucks for it, so I passed, but I'd love to hear how it is. Also I noticed the Church Key Holy Smoke was there, and I haven't heard anything about it yet, but it sounds interesting. Kool to read. Great Lakes has consistently let me down. The one drink they came out with that I was a fan of was Miami Weiss, it was a weiss beer that tasted very must like an ipa. All the others are down the drain for me, Orange, Green Tea, Pumpkin, etc. Being the reviewer I am, I will still buy it and try it. Hey, if they got the Miami Weiss down, how hard would it be to get a black ipa down. Plus, black ipa is basically a stout/ipa mix. Garrison brewery made the first beer I tried like that and it was the best of my two favorite worlds in one bottle. Church Key brewery is pretty basic. They are a local Ontarian brewery which resides in Church Key. Their lagers/ales/pilsners are all very bland to me. A Smoked approach could be interesting though. Love me some smoked beer. Believe it or not I am actually starting to get sick of my favorite smoked beer I posted on here a long time ago. Oh, and you said you don't like wine, but you like Barley Wine? :P Smart-ass.

LOL not sticking it to him, like the rest of everyone here I hate the Macro brews but from a technical stand point what they do is nothing short of amazing. There are 4 key ingredients in their beers, water, grains, hops, yeast. Hops and grains are effected by weather, soil conditions, and any other number of variables that can effect the crops and the flavors of them yet they make it all the same year after year millions of gallons of consistency. With that said I drank one of these last night, sad that they're no longer brewed in Chicago and it tastes like the hop build has changed slightly but its still a pretty solid IPA not overly bitter and very flavorful. They just got bought out by Anheuser-Busch I'm pretty sure.

I don’t know what you can get in PA though, so I just stuck to recommending PA beers to keep it simple. Since Stormland is probably going to be having his friend look, I wanted to throw a couple out there that would be easy to find. Any Russian River stuff, or Founders would be an easy choice. I just don’t know if he can find it easily.

Plus I don't think nitrogen can be bottled and I've learned that the Cobblestone is in fact a widget nitrogen beer not an infused as I thought, its stuck to the bottom of the can and actually says to have a glass on stand by to catch the run off.

Well I know the Guinness Draught in a bottle has a widget, so they could possibly just do that for their bottle version as gluing it to the bottom is probably out of the question.

Re: NOW DRINKING - BEER SNOBBERY VOL. 4
I picked up a bomber of this Sam Adams Merry Mischief. It’s a ginger bread stout, which essentially means it’s a stout with Christmas type spices. I am drinking it right now, and it is really fucking good. I also grabbed a six pack of the Anderson Valley Boont Amber Ale. Anderson Valley rules, and people who come to the states to buy beer should always get their stuff if they see it. I have a nice mix going in my fridge right now, with a wide range of six pack remnants from the last few weeks. I love having so many great brews on hand.

I didn't know their bottles have widgets. I will have to check this out next time I see a bottle. Picked up 2 bottles of the Craftmans Chocolate Oatmeal Stout and one bottle of Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout.

I've had just about all those Sam Adams in the 22oz bottles, all of them were excellent. I'm going to the liquor store tomorrow to get that one that you have, looking forward to it.

The carbonation and the sweetness immediately brought out friendly reminders of all the double fermented beers I've had in the past. The 11% abv complimented the beer like no other. The alcohol wasn't too overpowering at all. This was the kicker. My absolute favorite part of this beer. The part of it that would keep bringing me back for more and more. The caramelization effect that the beer mentions reminds me of the taste of sugar cane or caramel candy apples. Seriously amazing surprise. They pulled it off unbelievably well. Blasphomet, I must commend you for your idea to age this well before you ever had it. ENJOY! .... I will buy many many more. Oh, and I drank it out of the stem-less snifter's I posted below which I recently got from a Courvoisier gift pack I got from this season. I hate to say it, but PIMPIN! lol

I didt try out the St Ambroise Vintage ale and the nose on that reminded me a lot of the caramel apple you describe here.

Love the Raison and drink it regularly. Had the Weyerbacher Pumpkin last most and it was great. The Shipyard Pumpkin was the illest out of the Pumpkins I tried.
