Here Romero goes the mockumentry route, & you know what? He succeeds in making his best film since "Creepshow," & his best zombie film since "Dawn of the Dead," & in many ways, surpassing that mall muncher.

A group of college kids are out in the woods making a horror movie. Little do they know that the undead have risen, & that they will actually make a film documenting the true horror surrounding them, as they try to survive.

"Diary of the Dead" is a well acted & directed Zombie film. Romero's direction tends to meander in many of his other films, but here he is as straight as a stiff corpse! Same has to be said about the script, as with many of his films, the combination of bad script, bad direction, & bad acting make for a bad movie, but not here! Sharp, intelligent & intriguing, "Diary of the Dead" may be Romero's best Zombie script ever, if not his most visionary or original.

Truth be told, I feel that Romero is a sometime brilliant, but overall, a highly overrated director. When he is on his game, he is one of the best horror film makers out there, but more often than not, he misses the horror & makes the horrible. He was a visionary director with his ultra ground breaking (no pun intended) debut, "Night of the Living Dead." He made what I feel is the best horror anthology ever in Creepshow," but everything before & after just have not met those high standards. People will point to "Dawn of the Dead" as his classic, but it really does not hold up as well today, especially in regards to such recent films as "28 Days Later" & "28 Weeks Later." Even the "Dawn of the Dead' remake is more potent in it's horror than the original, but it does lack the black comedy & humanity of the former.

With "Diary of the Dead," Romero has redeemed himself as being a great Zombie film maker again, if not a original visionary anymore.

Man...I thought that movie was fucking AWFUL. I haven't seen it since it first came out, so I don't recall enough to site particular reasons, but I just remember actually being annoyed and a bit angry at how bad it was haha.

Well, that's how it goes. You see, I thought "Day of the Dead" was a large rotting corpse of a film, but the hardcore Romero fans loved it. I really like "Dawn of the Dead," but always thought it was overrated.

Each to their own. ;)

Try it again sometime without any expectations & see what you think. :)

Monster on campus - God, now were going back! I've seen the film, but just don't remember anything. I'll have to go to youtube to see if it jogs my memory with a trailer.

Gorgo - Grew up with this British answer to Godzilla, literally. Love it! Like to see a remake!

The Beast With Five Fingers - Love those chopped off crawling hands. They use to give me the shivers! Check out "Dr. Terrors House of Horrors," mid 1960's. An horror anthology with a paticular good segement with Chritopher Lee & a cut off hand!

The Tool Box Murders (1978) - I've heard the name for years, but I don't think I've actually seen the film.

The Boogyman (1980) - Been a long time. Pretty good if I remember right???

Silent Night Deadly Night - Oh yes. Have this on a 20 horror movie complilation set. Good stuff!

Trilogy Of Terror - The first two stories are ok, but the third one is a killer with the Zuni Doll. Wouldn't stick my hand underneath the furniture for months after seeing it when it first aired on TV. Made for TV.

Murder Set Pieces - This one I have not heard of.

Well, I'm glad you think you made a point, but that is not the point of this thread. There are plenty of horror/sci/fi films I think are terrible, literally hundreds upon hundreds of forgotten time wasters. For every horror/sci/fi film I put up here, there are at least 15 or 20 that I think stink. So hardly every horror/sci-fi film ever made is on this thread, let alone all the films I've seen. This thread is not about films I think stink.

The point of this thread is for me to put up the ones I like, not what you like, not what I don't like. Hopefully a few people will like these films too, or if they've not seen them, maybe check them out & like them, though I have no control over what people like or not. If you don't like my picks, fine, no problem. I welcome contrasting opinions & people posting their own favorites here, but don't tell me you made your point about me, when you don't even know what my intended point of this thread is. It's presumptuous, pompous, & rude.

If you don't like this thread, don't read it. Make your own, I could care less, other than your condescending attitude towards me. That I don't like. In other words, I don't pigeon hole you, please give me the same respect. Not much to ask, is it?

The remake for Dawn was great too!

Thanks for posting guys!

Though we might not like all the same movies, were here for one reason, our love a horror, science fiction, & fantasy films! :)

4 1/2 Stars = Minor Masterpiece

This movie may well be the most original horror film I've seen in quite some time! It's a text book example of what you can't see is more scary (down right creepy!) than what you can see in a horror film. At least the first two thirds of the film, & the rest is worth the wait!

Talk show radio DJ, his producer, & her assistant are broadcasting from the basement of a old church in Pontypool, Ontario. They start getting phone calls about mass groups of people killing each other, even eating one another! As their in a basement on a cold snowy Valentine's Day, they can not see the outside world, & at first think it's a hoax, & this is where things get ultra creepy, as their imaginations, & yours, start to run amuck! Their isolation from the outside world in their cave like basement, only makes things more potent!

Superbly acted, directed, & scripted, this is a intimate tour de force of horror! Especially good is Stephen McHattie, as the jaded, sarcastic, morning DJ. His role is one of the most multi dimensional I've seen in a horror film in a long time. His acting is hypnotic! His co-actors are top notch to, as the three make their scenario of the unbelievable, believable!

A superb horror film for those who crave the dark corners of the psychological kind. This film will give you all that & more, as you contemplate just what the hell happened in Pontypool, Ontario!

Survival of the Dead is wayyy better than Diary.

That being said, Survival also turned Romero's idea of zombies upside-down within the last two minutes of the film.

The original Dawn of the Dead is in my top five movies of all-time.

"Diary of the Dead" seems to be a love it or hate it affair for the most part. It got a 5.8 average out of 10 on IMDB, & a 3 star out of 5 on Amazon, which means people are divided about equally on this film, though the scale is tipped ever so slightly in favor of this movie.

I highly suspect a lot of people don't like this film because the way it is filmed, documentary, a.k.a. mockumentary style. I can sympathize with that to a great extent, but a good movie for me, is a good movie, no matter what it's format. But, when everyone jumps on the boat, the boat either sinks or capsizes, & the life preservers are becoming scarce, if you know what I mean?

4 1/2 = Minor Masterpiece

"Let Me In" (2010) is the American remake of the Norwegian original, "Let the Right One In" (2008). It is about how two misfits find each other. Owen, (Kodi Smit-McPhee) who is terrorized by bullies at school, & fantasizes about revenge by playing out his fears when he is alone. His parents are divorced, & Owen just seems to not fit in anywhere, at school or at home. The other, Abby. Abby has just moved in next door, with who Owen at first thinks is her father, Richard Jenkins (who's role is called, "the Father"), who actually is not Abby's father at all, but day time protector & provider of food, namely, blood, for Abby is a Vampire. She needs someone to watch over her during the day & to go out hunting for her at night, though you'll see later in the film, that Abby is perfectly capable of hunting down her own food. So the film starts.

"Let Me In" is a tragic horror film, the tragedy of loneliness, the tragedy of being stuck with who you are & what you are, of not fitting in. For Owen, it's loneliness, being weak, being an outcast. For Abby, it's being a Vampire & knowing she'll never stop being one. Abby will continue to live on, while one human companion after another takes care of her needs. It is the tragedy of knowing that the one person she selects as her companion will eventually die, & before he does, she'll have to find another to replace him. For her companion, it is knowing someday all this will happen, & when it does, the pain of desertion, replacement, the pain of knowing it is over. Both film's orchestrate these themes well, but I feel the remake does a better job of it. The acting, directing & editing seems to be quite a bit stronger, & the cast is perfect, but at the same time, the original film is dubbed, & that can contribute to how well a film seems acted & translates it's story to a foreign audience. In this case, the American version seems more intimate, tragic, just by facial expressions & body language alone. This is especially evident in "the Father" character. Richard Jenkins exudes tragedy in just about every scene he is in. His eyes speak a million atrocious tragedies that he has committed. His eyes speak a great sadness in knowing his time is about over. His, is a greatly improved role & performance over the original. Same has to be said about Owen's part, Kodi Smit McPhee was born for this role. His eyes speak great sadness, but also, great fear, the fear of the world. His counterpart, "Oscar," in the original film, shows much anger, but his role & performance is nowhere as deep, as sad, as multi-dimensional as Owens. Chloe Grace Moretz, as Abby, brings more tragedy & sadness to her role than her counterpart, "Eli," in the original. This can especially be witnessed in scenes with "the Father," especially the hospital scene. Both movies had the same scene, but the American version just takes it so much deeper. You can feel their pain, you can see their pain. In the original, it seemed just like a repeated scenario for Ali. There was a little sadness, but then it was all over in a blink of an eye, without much remorse, not so with the emotional punch of the remake.

Both films are horror films, but here, the American version has the edge again. When Abby hunts her prey, she is absolutely feral, she looks the part, due to superior make up. She moves like the part, due to superior special effects. She is the part, as she ravenously feeds on her victims. One thing though that is missing in the remake, is the more overtly sexual relationship between Ali & Oscar, where it is only hinted at in the remake, the original is fairly frank about it, especially in the scene that Ali puts on Oscar's mother's dress, & he peers in to the room, there is a quick flash of frontal nudity. There is also a scene with a long kiss between the two. Europe has a more worldly view on sexuality between children, where America does not blink an eye seeing a child frenetically feeding off her victims, but would be uncomfortable viewing a long kiss, let alone, nudity, between the two child actors.

Another very important part of these movies are the bullies of both Owen & Oscar. The original film bullies were just weak, as compared to the brutal masochistic nature of the American film. There is a scene where both Owen & Oscar get whipped with what looks like a metal radio antenna. In the Norwegian film, as Oscar gets whipped, it looks more like love taps when compared to the American film, as Owen gets flogged, brutally flogged, you can feel every lash of the antenna. Another is where Owen gets whipped in the face with a towel in the boys locker room after gym class. You can feel that towel whipping his face, then if that is not enough, the bullies knock him to the floor & beat on him until he urinates in his pants out of terror. Yes, there is no comparison of the bullies here between the two films, the American version wins hands down, plus Owen is terrified even to make eye contact with his foes, where Oscar seems to be oblivious of them half the time.

Both films are very good to great additions to the horror genre, they add depth, terror, horror, sadness, & loneliness, to a rather oversaturated time for Vampire movies, that are frankly, quite lame by comparison. A drop of fresh blood, just when the Vampire movie needed it the most, in this post "Twilight" era.

The Blu-ray for "Let Me In" is impeccable, worth picking up!

"The Descent: Part 2" is aptly named. It is a descent from the original in terms of over all quality, & non-alignment of the story from the first movie.

Sarah in the original film (American version), escaped through a hole in the ground from a mountain side. In the sequel, they more or less threw that out, & pointed towards her escaping from a mining shaft. There were actions in the cave that Sarah said she did in the first movie that were not a part of the first film. Though to be fair, the camera was not on Sarah all the time in the first film. There were other tidbits here & there that did not jive with the first film too, minor, but never the less, not in tune with the first film. The cave dwellers also looked different from the first movie, while still convincing, they were a notch down from the original. I more or less credit this to lack of budget.

There is a lot of action in this sequel, many fight scenes, but they are no where as well choreographed & seemed in general much quicker, less intense in nature, though the gore level is higher, it adds nothing to the film. The acting, script, plot, & editing is no where close to the original either. Many of the characters just seemed to be cast in this movie for cave mutant bait, no real character development. Sherriff Vaines character was the typical stereotype of a dumb redneck cop. His character brought nothing to this film, other than stupidity.

I really wish I could say there were redeeming factors in this film that pushed it close to the level of the first film. The only scene I can think of is the last ten minutes in the cave when three characters are near the surface & trying to escape. This is the only scene that is on level with the original. There also is a good plot twist two thirds into the film, but I won't say what that is. The ending was surprising, but on second viewing, it was more or less a cheat.

For all it's short comings, "the Descent: Part 2" is still worth seeing, it does have it's moments, but be forewarned, if you've seen the original, keep your expectations in descent.

Well, some find these movies horrible. :)

To be honest, I just don't have time to write reviews on horrible films. If I was a paid reviewer, or just a reviewer for a movie website, then I would, but there is just not enough time, & I would sooner turn people on to movies I think are great, very good, or good, than ones that are bad.

Sorry.

Here is one of the most hilarious Zombie spoofs to come digging it's way out of the grave! 2009's, "Doghouse" is an absolutely original take on the way over used & abused Zombie sub-genre.

A group of friends take off for a boys weekend of boozing, bonding, babe hunting, & all out good ole fashioned debauchery, as their trying to cheer up a buddy who has just went through divorce. They hire a mini bus with a hot female driver, & off they go into the English countryside to a village where another friend lives.

Right off the bat you know this is going to be a funny affair, as one wife or girlfriend gives each of the guys the third degree for taking off together for a weekend of fun. Yes, these guys are hen pecked, & ready to fly the roost. Little do they know that the hens in the village are ready to peck them to death, as their all Zombies looking for that special guy which just happens to be any guy who crosses their path. Yes, these hens have sharp teeth & claws, & rooster is on the menu!

What ensues is mass black comedy hilarity as our group of roosters try to get away with all their feathers still intact. The female Zombie make up is first rate & diverse! We have a hooker Zombie, a Grandmother Zombie, a barmaid Zombie, a beautician Zombie, a young bride Zombie, a woman politician Zombie, a teenage girl Zombie, a woman butcher Zombie, & maybe the most hilarious of all, a hugely obese housewife Zombie dressed in a huge tent of a bathrobe & hair curlers that loves candles on her cake made of men's fingers. Instead of having her cake & eating it to, she just likes to munch on a finger or two, or three, or four...

Yes, it is revenge of the hens, as the roosters are crowing for help & trying to fly away with clipped wings! One funny scene after another fills this hugely entertaining black comedy, as our roosters devise anyway they can to overcome the chopping block, but those hen's feathers a ruffled, their beaks are ready, & their tummies are clucking! This is one film where the rooster want to fly the coupe & never come back!

"Trick 'r Treat", not to be confused with the 1982 film, is a five story horror analogy. Though unlike other multi story horror analogies, these stories are all interconnected, & happen on Halloween night, during a large festival. We get a demented school principal, four hot women looking for a good time, a children's prank gone wrong, a hermit visited by a small vicious creature & his past, & a couple who blow out their jack-o-lantern pumpkin before 12 am, & find out the consequences of doing it before Halloween is over.

Also, unlike other horror analogies, this film starts with the end, & ends with the end, if that makes sense?

"Trick 'r Treat" is a fun little Halloween movie, but it's stories are to unfocused & to short because of the strange way the film is set up. Things are kind of half baked, though enjoyable, as the film does catch the festive & spooky Halloween theme, but there is just to much going on, in to little time. The best story would be the hermit, visited by his past, & I won't say anymore.

"Trick 'r Treat" is no "Creepshow" by miles, it's a half backed pumpkin pie, but a tasty one. Good for a watch around Halloween!

3 1/2 Stars = Very Good

Two commandos land on a German occupied island in the English Channel, on the eve before D-Day, to knock out a gun fortress as a diversion to the main invasion of Normandy. At first they are puzzled that no one seems to inhabit the island, even thinking they landed on the wrong island, though the huge concrete gun fortress is there ominously over looking the English Channel. Little do they realize that their not alone, & that more than just humans occupy the fortress.

"The Devils Rock" is a rewarding little watch for those who stick with it. It is an intimate film, only having four characters to it's story, but that is all it needs. The small cast is well acted & directed. They enhance the already eerily foreboding atmosphere of the gun fortress, with it's long cold half lit cement hallways. One's imagination could run wild here. An occasional cry is heard from inside, only to reinforce the isolation & the fear it brings.

The Germans were/are here, but it's not guns & defensive positioning that this gun fortress on an island is about. It's isolation is being used for the occult, & their black magic has summoned up a she Demon from hell. Aptly portrayed by Gina Varela, both in human & demonic form, she is the central figure that makes this film work. Her make up is just right, not overdone or underdone, she really does look like she's sat on Lucifer's knee! But, unfortunately, she does not appear until the last third of the film.

Yes, all the cast does a great job, but the rock blocking the road here is that two thirds of the film crawls to building up the last third. Not that it's not well scripted, & also has it's dreadful charm, but there is not a lot happening, as the characters are piecing together what has happened & meet up with the only German still alive, an SS Colonel who has some surprises in store. A person could go either way with this build up, you can either love the tension it builds or fall asleep. I lean a tad towards the former, but this film would easily rate higher for me if there was just a little more happening to shake things up. As it is, it's still a very good piece of work from what is probably a direct to DVD affair. Quite superior given all the garbage that resides in the horror section of the low budgeted. So if you've the time & the patience, "The Devils Rock" is a good place to visit on a dark night.

One quick note, this film reminds me somewhat of another Nazi war time horror film, 1983's "The Keep."

Sorry, no trailer on this great obscure Candian film.

Not a horror film, but you horror lovers should love this thriller!

5 Stars = Masterpiece

"Silent Partner" is with out a doubt in my opinion, the best suspense thriller inspired by Alfred Hitchcock ever made. You'd think this was a Brian De Palma film, as it has the same greatness of his three suspense thrillers, "Blow Out," "Dressed to Kill," & "Body Double," but this film was released in 1978, a full two years before "Blow Out!" It was directed by Canadian director, Daryl Duke, whose only real claim to fame was directing the excellent mini-series, "The Thorn Birds."

"Silent Partner" is set in Toronto, at a bank in a huge mall. Vault teller, Miles Cullen (Elliot Gould), reads a carbon copy of a bank deposit slip that has written on it; "The thing in my pocket is a gun. Give me all the cash." He puzzles over this a while, then finally learns that career criminal, Harry Reikle (Christopher Plummer), dressed as Santa Clause, is planning on robbing the bank. He learns this by how Harry prints his capital G's, with the word "Give," as Harry is collecting donations as Santa & has a sign written with "Give" on it, & Miles puts it all together. What transpires is the perfect game of chess, cat & mouse, as Miles anticipates the robbery, & figures out how to use the robber as a patsy to steal the money himself. What Miles does not anticipate, is the criminally psychotic lunatic that Harry is, & he wants his money back! What follows is a steel tightrope, as tense as suspension bridge wire, as Miles plays a dangerous game of wits with Harry, who finds out where Miles lives.

The direction & pacing of this film is spectacular! Daryl Duke really knows how to make a white knuckled, clench your teeth suspense thriller. I'm very surprised that this relatively unknown director did not become well known like Brian De Palma, as there is so much similarities between the two's directing style.

The cast was perfect, Elliot Gould & Christopher Plummer make for a legendary antagonist & protagonist. Miles & Harry parts are perfectly written. Miles, who everyone underestimates, & no one really knows much about him. Elliot Gould makes this character come to life with a greatly intelligent performance, you really get swept along. Harry, who is one of the coldest villains in cinema history! You really got to give Christopher Plummer applause for his great maniacal performance! The supporting cast is excellent to! Susannah York, as the bank operations manager, who is Miles love interest, but is entangled in an affair with the married bank manager, & may suspect Miles has the money later in the film. Their relationship, twists & turns, & fits perfectly in the movie. A very young & much slimmer John Candy has a small part! The bedazzling beautiful Celine Lomez, as Miles other love interest, is superbly infatuating! This is the only film I can remember seeing her in, but she certainly leaves an impression!

"Silent Partner" is just about the perfect film! Maybe the best film you've never seen? At least in the suspense thriller genre. I really can not complain about a thing in this film, & wait until you see the ending!

Spellbinding!

"The Silent Partner" 1978

Here's a morbid little bundle of joy!

Madeline, a pregnant mother is involved in a car crash. She goes to the doctor & is told her unborn baby is dead. She decides to keep the baby full term, as she is obsessed with having a baby, even if it's dead. The child is born & pronounced dead, but something very strange happens, the baby thought dead comes back to life! Madeline overjoyed, names the baby "Grace." Grace is not your typical bouncing baby girl, as a matter of fact, Grace is not typical at all, as she starts to produce an odor of rotting flesh, & attracts flies. It seems as Grace has an appetite, a very peculiar appetite, not for mother's milk, but mothers blood!

"Grace" is indeed a strange nightmarish film. It will not appeal to everyone, especially mothers who have had a miscarriage or still born baby. They will find this film sacrilegious to a sanctity of motherhood. The rest of us? Well, I'll just say it's not to everyone's taste, as this is truly an ugly & disturbing portrait of the obscenely unnatural. It's repulsiveness will attract us like a car wreck, we don't want to see, but we have to know. We watch in morbid fascination as baby Grace feeds off her own mothers blood through her breast, shredding & bloodying Madeline's nipples like a rat in baby human form. It's quite the disturbing portrait of depravity & desperation. Not for everyone.

Those of you that have not seen this film, you're forewarned. Be prepared for the warped offensive film this is, that is somehow mesmerizing.

What would you call "The Descent," if it was in outer space? Answer, "Pandorum."

"Pandorum" is about the last spaceship to leave an overpopulated dying Earth, carrying 16,000 humans & every species of life form of Earth, to a new Earth like planet for a second chance of survival of the human species, a "Noah's Ark" if you will.

Dennis Quaid & Ben Foster (3:10 to Yuma) wake up after a long hyper sleep, with their memories partially intact, because hyper sleep for long periods makes for partial, though temporary amnesia. They try to figure out, where they are, who they are, & where their going? They also find out a disturbing factor, as many of those who were in hyper sleep have woke up & mutated to become compatible with the ship, & they feed on the non mutated living, & are not above of cannibalism them selves, when the opportunity arises! These mutants are tough customers, as they set traps & forming hunting parties, & have super human strength! If that is not enough, many of them have grown spike like armor! They don't die easily.

"Pandorum," truly reminds me of "the Descent," in both it's setting, the giant cavernous spaceship serving as the cave. The mutants, who sound, move, & look quite a bit like the creatures in "The Descent," & just the general over all editing & direction of the film. One could say there is a "Alien" connection too, but that really is only because of the space setting & situation of survival.

I was very impressed with this film when I first saw it, as the critics mostly crucified this movie. Upon second viewing, I was still as impressed. "Pandorum," is a great Sci Fi/Horror film, with lots of action, good special effects, make up, fast pacing, a genuinely eerie setting, & a twist ending, that is truly twisted! It's acting, editing, & the cannibalistic inhabitants of the ship, make for a great ride!

"Pandorum" is no "Descent," earthly or not, but it's better than "The Descent: Part 2" light years! Pick up this, & forget about "the Descent: Part 2."

Recommended for lovers of deep space horror!

I've read some pretty good things about this film, so I thought it was time to see what all the hubbub was about for myself! I mean, a film about the true Santa Claus, who is not jolly in the least bit, & serves as an age old European boogeyman! Now thats got my curiosity sky high, & had my expectations red lining for a merry bloody Christmas!

Though not quite the film I had envisioned in my mind's eye, "Rare Exports" was indeed worth the watch. Here we have a film that is truly original, if nothing else, but that "nothing else," does not apply here. We also get a goodly amount of atmospheric dread as this movie builds up to it's conclusion. We get a few good red herrings along the way. The movie is handsomely filmed, directed, scripted, acted, & the plot is, to say the least, original. We also get to see the baser side of the human condition, when large sums of money are at stake. A true metaphor to "naughty or nice."

My biggest problem is the climax is somewhat anti-climatic, at least for me, but maybe not for you? I won't give it away. The epilogue is very clever though, & again, I won't give it away.

All & all, "Rare Exports" is a film that will repay the viewer well with repeated viewings, especially in the "Yuletide" season!

"Brides of Dracula"

Hammer Films were best known for their Christopher Lee, Dracula movies, but their best Vampire film did not even have Dracula in it, though it was in the title, "Brides of Dracula."

"Brides of Dracula" made in 1960, was the sequel of "The Horror of Dracula," Hammers first Dracula film, & staring Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing as Van Helsing. In that movie, Dracula was destroyed by sunlight. In "Brides of Dracula," it is Dracula's disciple, Baron Meinster, David Peel, who is the antagonist of the film, with Peter Cushing playing the protagonist, Van Helsing again, but in a subtler way than the first film. While David Peels, Baron Meinster, was also more subtle than Christopher Lee's Dracula, his Baron Meinster was at the same time, more feral, threatening, evil, & had a much more intelligent script. As a matter of fact, one thing about Christopher Lee's, Dracula was, he never had much dialog, but David Peel's, Baron Meinster, had more dialog than two or three Christopher Lee films put together, & he truly makes a formidable vampire.

This movie is filled with great acting, script, cinematography, outstanding sets, scenery, & again, director Terence Fisher makes the first masterpiece in a horror sub-genre, & it is his eerie scenes that really make this film bite! One such scene has a new Vampire being coaxed out of her grave by Baron Meinster's old nanny, who now is his human daylight protector. The scene is really the first of it's kind that I can remember. Shot in a cemetery, the nanny, Greta, Freda Jackson, played with a maniacal intensity, makes you really think she is insane, what a great performance, as she sweets talks the beautiful young female Vampire out of her grave. The ground starts to rise as a hand pops out slowly, all shot perfectly up close by the camera! Greta cackles with pleasure as the young girl rises from her coffin. Other great scenes abound in a castle (the Baron's mother) & the dark shrouded leafless forest of late fall.

You can only find this film in DVD, in "the Hammer Horror Film Series," along with the outstanding "Curse of the Werewolf." Any lover of horror, especially Hammer horror, needs to pick this set of DVD's up yesterday! The transfer is excellent! A loving tribute to Hammer horror!

Hilarious, black comedy horror film, that is a loving tribute to the old Hammer films of yore! Covering, or should I say, uncovering, not just Zombies, but Vampires & other assorted go bump in the coffin creatures!

Pure tongue in cheek acting, funny dialog, crisp direction & editing, with some very good monster make-up, as our two grave robbers, rob the dead to sell to the living, the bumbling pair that they are.

Ranks right up there with "Dog House" as one of the best of the new wave of British horror/comedy films!

Keep on making them!
