man, Cleveland's depth must really be awful if you think Gomes is likely to make the team. nice story, but not a Major League ball player in any way from what I've seen.

They're not giving him spot outright. He can compete for a spot, most likely as a backup catcher. That tells me that they're seriously considering moving Santana to first base full-time. He also has experience in the outfield, and they've been looking for another corner outfielder who can keep out there without a platoon and provide some decent pop here and there.

Considering that they're in a rebuild (again, but they front office doesn't want to admit to it), they're trying to get younger and hoping that whoever comes in actually pans out this time.

It's not an ideal way to go about it from a Indians fan's perspective, but I'm trying to keep an open mind in holding out hope that Francona can develop this team in a way that Acta never could.

Hope sucks. But I'm resigned to it. :peeved:

And I know nothing about the Blue Jays farm system, so I don't know much about what you have. But we need pitching. Lots of it.

well Gomes can play multiple positions but I don't think he plays any of them well enough or will hit enough to even be a decent bench guy. though the fact he can catch could help his cause.

The Jays have a shit tonne of pitching prospects right now, though most of them are a couple of years away at least from being big league ready yet. part of the reason I think the two teams would make a good fit on a potential big trade.

That's where I think most of the prospects would be pulled from. The Indians simply don't have a whole lot of quality players in the pipeline because the former scouting department swung and missed a lot. And since the Indians are likely looking at two years before possibly contending again (good lord, we're basically the Royals for cryin' out loud! ), it makes sense to try to get the best players we can. Because the Indians drafts have been simply bad.

For example, we had a chance to get a guy like Mike Trout; we picked Beau Mills instead. Granted, this happens in every sport, but it doesn't make it any less painful considering the kind of players teams could have.

So... Boston seemingly wants every player that the Indians are open to trading.

Pitching please.

A biggie going down between Toronto and Miami:

Jays get: Josh Johnson, Mark Buehrle, unconfirmed "pieces." (Rumors fly that Jose Reyes could come, too.)

Marlins get: Yunel Escobar, Adeiny Hechavarria, and likely more.

One hell of a trade and I love it. :m:

Jays also got Maicer Izturis a few days back, so 2nd will be covered now as well.

Marlins also got Henderson Alvarez.

3 guys I don't care about leaving the Jays... Alvarez was probably the most valuable of the bunch, but oh well, he was like #4 in the pitching lineup, so it's not a big loss. I think the Jays won this trade.

I'm especially happy to have BIG JOHN BUCK! back.

His last couple of seasons in Miami weren't the best, but he had a killer 2010 with Toronto, so we'll see how he fares with the Jays again.

I wouldn't want him there. That is a team that fits perfectly the definition of the word team. They should be very careful who they bring in.

Jeffery Loria destroyed the Expos. Now he's trying to destroy the Marlins.

Opposing GMs have called about Giancarlo Stanton's availability and were turned down. He's gonna be pissed for a while.

Watch. Josh Hamilton will go there and we'll recycle today a year from now.

He's trying to redeem himself with Canadian baseball fans :)

I doubt the Jays are done wheeling and dealing yet. Buck? I could see him being flipped, or mentoring Travis d'Arnaud, sending J. P. Arencibia out of town. And they would probably get a decent return for J.P.

yeah, this should shut all the "Rogers is cheap!" talk up for awhile

AA obviously has decided the time to take a run is now. I wouldn't be at all surprised though to see one or two of the Marlins guys flipped for other pieces in the coming days.

Man... as great as this trade is for Toronto, I hate to see Escobar leave. Especially since I just bought an Escobar jersey this past summer

Clearly you hate fags too, then... if you're serious about buying that jersey. And if so, I'm sorry on so many levels.

Escobar is the biggest tool that ever put on a Jays uniform.

Escobar became completely expendable, and pretty much valueless when he wrote 'You're a faggot' on his fucking face. Anyone stupid enough to do it, regardless of his intended meaning, which is who the fuck knows, has no place on my team, and he should have out right released right then and there. The fact they held on to him was ridiculous, but the fact they were actually able to toss him into a trade and get some value out of him is downright amazing.

What a fucking clown.

That's exactly why they did hold onto him. Amazingly, it worked. So many people were slagging AA as recently as a few days ago. Not so much anymore, especially if this works out in the long run. There are a few 'what-ifs' with this trade. Looks amazing on paper though.

I really couldn't care less what he wrote on his face. Did he produce on the field? That's the only question that matters to me. He may be a bit of a dickbag, but he's a good enough ball player. I'm not happy to see him go, but the Jays more than got their money's worth in this trade :m:

To be fair, it was part of a package deal with a Joe Carter jersey 8)
