Re: Jimmy Jammers Jam Joint: Album of the Day
One day back in '74 I was sitting at home, bored, and decided to sit down and write out the whole of The Ikon. My band was already playing it, but I wanted to figure out exactly what was going on. It's a lot of fun.

Here is another of my favorite prog albums from the 70's, some fairly heavy stuff happening here for it's time. From 1973, hereis Emerson Lake & Palmer, "Brain Salad Surgery." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ep67xgL91pY

Here is a excellent album! Jimi Hendrix meets Bad Company, meets heavy southern rock! From 1992, here is Cry of Love, "Brother." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgdJmJjFGJc

It's to bad that there is only one album from Alice Cooper's classic 70's out put on youtube, but it's a great one! From 1975, here is Alice Cooper, "Welcome to My Nightmare.' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OpyJ-kTPik

Re: Jimmy Jammers Jam Joint: Album of the Day
4 Stars = Classic Texas band, Point Blank started out with their self titled debut album in 1976, "Point Blank," coming on like a combination of ZZ Top (Their manager at the time was ZZ Top's), Lynryd Skynryd, Blackfoot, & Mountain, this band's debut was one of the heaviest southern rock albums of it's time. A full on double guitar attack, & the soulful yet rough edge singing of lead vocalist John O'Daniel, made a formidable force to be reckoned with, & this album is a document attesting to that straight a head gut wrenching sound that was pound for pound as heavy as ZZ Tops earlier albums, but not quite as focused. At any rate, for those of you interested in a long forgotten band that really never got their due, except for the hit song in 1981, "Nicole," that charted at #20, "Point Blank" is a old wooden treasure chest filled with heavy southern rock candy for your ears waiting to be heard again. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4qTdJNYTlw

Here is one of the best live albums of the 70's, from one of that decade's best guitarist, Frank Marino. From 1978, Mahogany Rush, "Live." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPgtx8kBycU

"Come Taste the Band," along with "Stormbringer" are two dark horses in the Deep Purple catalog. Both deep under the rader & highly underrated. From 1975, featuring guitarist Tommy Bolin, here is Deep Purple, "Come Taste the Band." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pzlbW2nZ7Q

The first time I heard it I couldn't stand the preponderance of keyboards; I guess years of assimilation has changed my perspective - I enjoyed most of the album, and now I'm thinking of giving it a few more listens.

Good to hear! My favorite part of the album is "Karn-Evil 9 2nd Impression." The African steel drums you hear there is actually Emerson's keyboards, very impressive, as is his piano work in that song.

This album just gets better the more you listen to it! There is some very unexpected Deep Purple vibes here, but this album is it's own animal! From 1973, "here is Grand Funk Railroad, "We're American Band." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WD7H6LF8bNQ
