In fact, in these, our much maligned big cities, some restos specialize in serving latenite drunkos, and some just do gorgeous food 24/7 round the clock. Do you need some recommendations? I don't live in Toronto or Montreal so it doesn't help much! There are some decent places around, I get that. Even here in Ottawa it's pretty alright if you know where to go. I don't remember exactly why I made that comment you quoted, I believe it was quite a while ago and I'm too tired at 5 am to find it in here, lol, but I spend a lot of time outside the big cities and the selection can be pretty darn limited here in Canada unfortunately. But the big cities are great for sure! I know there is a cool farmers' market in Ottawa every week, but I don't know your city, thus don't know where it is. I think a cursory google search will bring it up. I do know it's well respected, with amazing cheese producers (some Toronto restauranteurs go shopping there regularly for the cheeses), as well as your local produce farmers and meat providers. Anyway, after 2am in Ottawa? I wish I could help you with info, but I'm guessing if you google late night Italian food and/or pizza you might find a family joint run by folks who understand la dolce vita. It's a small city but it is the nation's capital after all....

 Re: Food Obsession and Randomness!
So I came into this thread today to expound upon some of the incredibly delicious and obscure food that I've had the privilege to eat recently, but I got weirdly defensive about food in the posts above, and can't even remember any of the dishes I wanted to yap about. Basically, this thread has just taught me that I am feisty to a fault about Toronto food. Fuck. Also, there were food bloggers at the table next to me this afternoon and I fucking hated them, talking about donkey milk and such. Ugh. No wonder I can't remember any of the yummy food I wanted to describe. Donkey milk, are you serious? Ok anyway. We have the ubernoms here in TO. I will henceforth try to be less of a soldier and more of an ambassador. Of the deliciousness!

Artichokes are in! We introduced them to our son and he loves them. Stone fruit is starting to roll in, I had my first pluot of the year, delicious.

Artichokes are not only ridiculously delicious, they are thistles, and hence cleanse the liver. They are delicious vegetal machines. Unholy noms....

Yeah, it's good. The key features being the taters, and the ability to get Newfie dressing. In Newfoundland, it actually easily competes with KFC. But it's still just fried chicken.

Artichokes are delicious. WADI foods at Lawrence and Warden has frozen ones. I always pick up 15 bags of those things.

Now that it's supposedly avocado season, not a single ripe one to be found.

 Re: Food Obsession and Randomness!
I just went to Keriwa, incredible 5-star indigenous native cuisine by stellar native chef Aaron Joseph Bear Robe. Unreal. Also the decor is gorgeous, even going downstairs to the washrooms, no detail is left unattended! His grandmother's handstitched ceremonial robe is framed on the wall, among countless other eye candy to accompany the dizzying palate pleasures from the (open) kitchen. Seriously a food destination, worth an occasion. Tomorrow I'm going to Lamesa , the first Toronto resto doing Filipino chef-level cuisine by yet another highly trained/acclaimed chef, Rudy Boquila, who's also spinning the cuisine of his heritage. I'm going with a Filipino foodie friend and we are thrilled to the gills! I will report!

One of the most special food experiences I've had in the world, no word of a lie. Delicious and so unique, and the service is really exactly what you should be able to expect at that price point. Flawless and exciting simultaneously, I can't give a higher recommendation. Keriwa is very, very special; also so unique and uniquely Canadian; and lest we forget, stellar in technique and innovation and integrity. This resto is officially in my top 3 in Toronto, maybe my top 2. Mandatory.

 Re: Food Obsession and Randomness!
Also I received THE most beautifully plated food I've EVER been served when I went to Keriwa, and my camera was dead so I couldn't document it!!! Seriously, the most gorgeous plate I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of pretty plates. I was freaking out just looking at the food artistry on the plate, freakshow! I had never had a foodgasm BEFORE eating until that point. Then, the food itself was dizzyingly delicious but I was wrecking the plating by eating it! I am not exaggerating, this resto is absolutely worth the money and the trek to West Parkdale. This is now up there for me with Hy's.
