How're you doing it?

I've got some pork chops I need to use tomorrow, and some leftover rosemary and thyme from the soup. I think I'm just going to throw whole sprigs on the (George Foreman) grill between the plates and the chops.

I have a shit load of fresh rosemary, thyme and oregano kicking around too, so I'm gonna try to use it up via a killer herb rub.

From there I'll probably pan roast it.

Don't forget to save your rosemary stems. Those woody bastards make great skewers. They do the job and lend flavour.

Tonight I'm gonna head on over to get a Brownie Batter Blizzard at Dairy Queen. They're only available until the end of the month. Dairy Queen is the pantheon of the gods.

Cacciatore, or really any stewing/braising dish would be killer for the dark meat.

Roasting whole would work too, just go low and slow (no higher than 325 F for a bunch of hours).

Thanks :thumb:

I was wondering how she had the leftovers for lunch.

If I eat Chinese for dinner, I eat someone else's left overs about an hour later.

Clearly you are not eating Chinese food, but "Chinese-American" food. I expected more from you, my friend.... :(

:? In a Pacific city you don't have real Chinese restos in a dedicated hood? Genuine question.

For example, in any Chinatown I've visited in North America, I've been able to order an entire/half/quarter bbq duck, goose or chicken; or bbq pork by weight; or fresh fish caught live from the tank beside the hostess stand. We can basically have one platter of completely meat/poultry/fish and one entire platter of veg, plus rice, for a decadent meal for two people, and how is that different from, say, a rotisserie house of European origin? Pardon me for being defensive, but...that stereotype is kind of past its best by date....

No disrespect, but really man. Eat at better chop shops. Chinese cuisine is AMAZING if you put in the effort to find the real deal instead of just Shitty Wok.

It's a stereotype that based in fact, and while you're right about it being "Chinese-American" food and not traditional Chinese, most people in the US and Canada mean "Chinese-American" when they say "Chinese food." Just like when they say they want "Italian" they typically want "Italian-American." People can get as butthurt about it as they want, but we're lazy, and you know what we mean, so stuff it.

Authentic Chinese food is nearly impossible to find here, which is both surprising and not at all surprising. Portland is a foodie city and has a long history of Asian influence (longer than San Francisco, even), so you'd expect a huge Chinese population to support a Chinatown here. It's just not there. The "Chinatown" section in Portland is a few small blocks in the older, downtown area, and for the most part it's not very Chinese or Asian in general. The name is more vestigial than anything.

Most of the Asians live in the SE part of the city or in the suburbs, and Chinese pales in comparison to the Japanese, Thai, and Korean population. Even among those populations, the traditional places aren't very prevalent, though PokPok is an amazing authentic (but not really traditional) Thai place.

Thank you for your genuinely informative reply to my Royally Cunty post, Numen. I had just come off aggressive, combative phone convos with (1) my current stalker, and (2) a disagreeable person related to my work...so I came to the BB in search of solace and instead vented my frustrations on you.

If you do return to TO my friend, I will make it my mission to show you real Chinese food. Whether you prefer cuisine, regional, regional cuisine, or downhome Canuckian Chinkistan with bones, that shall be your choice and my pleasure. xxxo

Most of my meals lately have consisted of catering leftovers. I've had more chicken parmesan in the past week than all other foods combined.
