These are fluted oysters meaning the oyster shells are tumbled or not allowed to grow out. The outsides are essentially chipped away, allowing the oyster to grow deeper. They're smaller but they're divine. If given the chance don't pass on them.

Yummy.

Totally gonna rock some chicken and mushroom penne tonight. EDIT: I didn't have any penne, so I used rotini instead. It still turned out awesome. The shape is holding the sauce really well.

 Re: Food Obsession and Randomness!
I went to Foodstock. With my mom. It was delicious and epic. I can't believe none of y'all TO metalhead foodies stepped up but seriously, I'm not gonna brag, the whole thing in spite of being delicious was about stopping the mega-quarry that's gonna fuck the food source for all of central Canada, You don't have to be a foodie to care about this shit!! Do you have kids? Do you plan on kids? Do you care about your quality of life? This shit is imperative. http://www.orangeville.com/news/local/article/1226868--protest-never-tasted-so-sweet^^That was Sunday!

 Re: Food Obsession and Randomness!
I wish I could have gone to that.. I can't exactly remember why we didn't It's a big deal up here. The proposed site of that quarrie is about 20 or so minutes north of where we live. It's right around the corner from Gregs' uncle's place.

Made a bitchin' homemade applesauce last night. A bunch of it will be used in my apple spice bread recipe (think banana bread...but apple/fall flavored).

 Re: Food Obsession and Randomness!
The soup took forever because I couldn't figure out what I wanted to do with it, but god damn, that was four hours well spent (well, most of it was me doing other things and plotting the next move while it simmered).
Dismembered chicken carcass with a few onions, white wine, garlic, sambal oelek, salt, pepper, rosemary, cumin and paprika... set aside while figuring out where potatoes and leek fit in.
fried onion, potato, leek, and shallot slices in a bit of butter, more white wine, more pepper, the chicken stock, a bit of cream... blend, put into chicken stock bowl.
fried diced chorizo, deglazed with a splash more wine, and then the soup's added back in.
My tastebuds still have boners.

Cooking up a storm... Meatloaf, scalloped potatoes and brussel sprouts. Chocolate/caramel chip cookies for dessert.

I bought a cheesecake at the farmers market at NYC's Union Square. Might have been the best I've ever had.

Today for breakfast I had raspberry crepes, stuffed with cream cheese, and topped with raspberries, honey, and English cream. Worth every penny spent.
