SMISS you should try Willapa Kumamoto Oysters from the Pacific. These are fluted oysters meaning the oyster shells are tumbled or not allowed to grow out. The outsides are essentially chipped away, allowing the oyster to grow deeper. They're smaller but they're divine. If given the chance don't pass on them.

I've had tons of Kumamotos, from BC, Washington and the originals from Japan. Very minerally and a hint of cucumber. Yummy.

Totally gonna rock some chicken and mushroom penne tonight.



EDIT: I didn't have any penne, so I used rotini instead. It still turned out awesome. The shape is holding the sauce really well.

I think I forgot to re-mention there were 100 very noted regional chefs cooking in the woods with their teams(!) for 20 000 people! It was so epic! We had to hike and the wind and rain were pelting us but the delicious morsels of local fodder would not be denied! There were even wee'uns revelling in rabbit terrine no joke! Why is noone here interested in Foodstock?

Made a bitchin' homemade applesauce last night.

A bunch of it will be used in my apple spice bread recipe (think banana bread...but apple/fall flavored).

I'm dicking with potato and leek soup. This could get messy.

Just made my best batch of Syrian lentil soup

Beer & cheddar soup is something that is severely lacking in my life.

The soup took forever because I couldn't figure out what I wanted to do with it, but god damn, that was four hours well spent (well, most of it was me doing other things and plotting the next move while it simmered).

Dismembered chicken carcass with a few onions, white wine, garlic, sambal oelek, salt, pepper, rosemary, cumin and paprika... set aside while figuring out where potatoes and leek fit in.

fried onion, potato, leek, and shallot slices in a bit of butter, more white wine, more pepper, the chicken stock, a bit of cream... blend, put into chicken stock bowl.

fried diced chorizo, deglazed with a splash more wine, and then the soup's added back in.

My tastebuds still have boners.

Cooking up a storm...

Meatloaf, scalloped potatoes and brussel sprouts.

Chocolate/caramel chip cookies for dessert.

I bought a cheesecake at the farmers market at NYC's Union Square. Might have been the best I've ever had.

Today for breakfast I had raspberry crepes, stuffed with cream cheese, and topped with raspberries, honey, and English cream. Worth every penny spent.

it's hella cheesy and not gourmet at all but i am currently baking chocolate cupcakes, and they will be topped with peanut butter-butter cream icing.

Now I want some cupcakes!
