You know, this album NOT making the list pisses me off far more than all the crappy albums that DID. No Ghoul either. I expected a list exactly like that one, but it's never fun realizing the sad state of affairs in such a way.

Re: Braveboard top 100 albums of the Decade
thanks for your time LOAF of rye bread, sliced down the middle, with a hot german mustard, spinach, tomaters, onions, sliced roast beef, a dash of red vinager, some sliced avocado, sprouts (for the NorCal boy in me), cut the sucker in half and eat up after a day on the North Fork of the American River.....
Or: thanks for your time mate, cheers.
Confession time: I have never ever heard Blackwater Park, I have never heard (that I am aware of) anything by Nevermore... either I am as Kvlt as fuck or I am the most backwater donkey sniffing, goat fucking, toad licking, horse sniffing, goat rubbing, turtle ticklin, cow tipping, cat tickling, turnip wrangling, yahoo this side of Mars.

If you're going to listen to an Opeth record, make it Still Life. BWP sounds like leftovers when you compare the two.

Too many gin & tonics perhaps? (I'm one to talk ) Blackwater Park is actually well worth picking up if you like any Opeth albums. It isn't quite as incredible as some of the others IMO - namely Morningrise and Still Life - but it's a damn good album any way you slice it. I wouldn't put it among my top 30 of the decade, but it would probably be in my top 50. It's worth it just for the incredible "Harvest" and "Bleak." I talk shit about it, but it's a fucking good album nonetheless.

I talk shit about it, but it's a fucking good album nonetheless. One thing I always love about Opeth is the epic tracks, and not because of their length, but because of the arragements, high's, low's, crescendo's, etc. You're right, in that Orchid and Morningrise have those elements too, and they came first, but something about "Drapery Falls" just fucking hits it for me. I think I always rank BWP highly because it has most of the older elements, but it is vastly improved in some respects. I don't care what anyone says - its the best production the band had up to that point, and the folk elements mixing directly with the progressive ones is flooring. It's like the band reinvented themselves without throwing anything away - which is not what you hear with other bands and their ground breaking albums like Metallica's Black album for example. The main thing that pisses long time fans off is that it is such a departure, losing many elements, of their previously distinctive sound. I have to, at the very least, give kudo's to Opeth for not growing stagnant, while at the same time not ignoring their roots.

Great job, as always Mike. I own exactly 1/5 of that list.

I am a little late in expressing this, but thanks for putting this whole thing together!

Re: Braveboard top 100 albums of the Decade
I don't like Deathrace King being so high up and hate that Nothing even shows up. Otherwise that's as good a list as you could expect.
