At least The Chasm is in the top 10.

I've listened to it quite a bit, and while it's definitely good, it's nowhere near being one of the better albums of the year.

A little disappointed Aphyx wasn't higher. It's probably my favourite of the year.

2008

Heh I'm kind of surprised that the new Katatonia made #2. I figured the top 3 would be Nile, Megadeth and Hypocrisy. Diverse list though and a lot of good stuff on it. 2009 was definitely a phenomenal year for heavy metal in general. If 2010 surpasses it I'll die from shock.

Bagel: It's not surprising that the Megadeth placed where it did. It was the first truly good Megadeth album that fans got in 15 years. I ranked it #2 on my list for a lot of sentimental reasons. The Saviours album was my #3 and I kind of wanted to make it #2 and bump Megadeth down a notch but I was so pleased with the new Megadeth surpassing all my expectations for the first time since I was 14 that I had to give it the nod.

Well number one turned out as I thought it would. But I'm surprised that Tyr and Rammstein aren't higher, I saw them on a bunch of lists so I definitely thought they'd be in the top ten.
