Medusa you should tell folks here about the practical joke Adrian pulled on us while we were still on the road to Toronto for Day of the Exquinox. That was hilarious!

Auciello kindly sent this to me last night in the midst of our reminiscing about Adrian.

Me: Hello?
Adrian: Heeyyy, what's new?
Me: Well--
Adrian: Get out of that, fuckface!! Damn cat.
Me: Uh. Well, like I was---
Adrian: Just hold on, I need to finish typing this email I was working on while I called you.
Me: ...
*in the background I can hear Adrian saying the words to himself as he types*
*1 minute later*
Me: Dude, I'm not going to sit here and listen to you type.
Adrian: Oh, yeah, go ahead.
*I talk for 30 seconds about what is new*
Adrian: What was that? I wasn't listening to you man.
Me: Never mind. So why did you call?
Adrian: Just to see what's new.
Me: ...
Adrian: So guess what I got in yesterday?
Me: I don't know.
Adrian: Guess!
Me: I give up.
Adrian: I got in the new CD by ____. It's awesome! Do you want me to play you a bit over the phone?
Me: No, I would rather hear it fresh rather than a brief clip over a bad connection.
Adrian: Just listen.
Me: *sigh*
*Adrian drops receiver, and in the background I can hear him fumbling to get the CD queued to his favorite part, which usually takes about 3
minutes.*
*plays half of a second, then stops playing it*
Adrian: Are you listening?
Me: Yes. But I can barely hear any--
*resumes playback, although all I can hear is fuzzy static and Adrian yelling at his cat, occasionally yelling towards the telephone asking me if I am still listening, even though he can't hear whether I say "yes" or "no"*
Adrian: So what did you think?
Me: I could barely hear anything.
Adrian: Yeah, it's an awesome album. So what's new?
Me: Nothing since the last time that you asked.
Adrian: Cool. Well I have to go, but I'll give you a call in a couple of days.
*he calls me 30 minutes later*
Me: Hello?
Adrian: Heeyyy, what's new?
Me: Well--

I talked to Adrian 4-5 times a week minimum. We spent a lot of time over the last several years planning out and implementing a strategy for Unrestrained! magazine. He was extremely excited by where things were going and the fact that, by early next year, he would be on track to accomplish some major goals related to the magazine. I wish that he could have seen that day. I wish that I could have seen him see that day...

Sometimes we'd chat 2-3 times a day. There was once, right around "crunch time" for a new issue, when he called me no less than 9 times. Each call was between 30 seconds and 2 minutes. He will be missed. I never realized how damn quiet my telephone is without him to dial my number.

A few weeks ago, at the Dismember show in Toronto, I was hanging out being sour because I was still on the outs with my girlfriend (who was doing merch at the gig....AWKWARD).

I'm standing there minding my own business, and I get a text message from a phone number I don't recognize.

"You're cute."
So I respond...."Who is this?"
"You're so hot in camo pants....and I love your smile."
"Who is this?"
"A secret admirer... "
"Where are you?"
"Over by the bar....."

So I look over at the bar, and there's a bunch of dudes, and Drew and Barbra, and some other people...and I'm like...ummmmmm.....so I text back:

"Look, I have no idea who you are. Just come up and introduce yourself."

"I will.....right after you stop texting Adrian."

And he turns around and points at me and goes HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, and I couldn't help but laugh my ass off. I only had his New York number, not his Toronto number, so I was a sitting duck. What a dick.

That shot of a younger Adrian... that's from the early '90s, right? When he was in his early 20s. I didn't recognize him when it was first shown to me.

The only hilarious MPB story I have was he called the police department of Albaquerque, New Mexico (I think), because a Braveboarder had basically disappeared off the face of the planet for a couple of months. A couple of days after the call, the boarder tells a story about how he had received an angry call from his mother wondering why there were cops at her doorstop that told her that someone from Toronto had called the cops in New Mexico and wondering if he had been missing
