Re: Adrian 'The Energizer' Bromley - Rest In Peace
I only had the privilege of encountering Adrian in person twice, but both times there's a story that makes me smile to recall. He had a really wonderful, energetic pesonality with his enormous grin and eagerness to share some sort of hilarious tale or new idea that he was madly cooking up. I really admired his work too, and it didn't take much to see that he was a great writer who accomplished so much in his short time. He will keep serving as an inspiration.

Medusa you should tell folks here about the practical joke Adrian pulled on us while we were still on the road to Toronto for Day of the Exquinox. That was hilarious! Ahhh, the goodbye 'hearse' pic... That dude was awesome...whatever happened to him? Anyway, You, Release and I were on our way up to Toronto in the Magnum and we had Angel1zer and his wife Deanna in front of us and all of a sudden Ade calls Release's cell...(or was it yours?) to let us know that he was with Zekeyou at the airport and that customs had detained him for some reason or another...we were all like, oh shit! We used the cell that wasn't in use to call Dave up ahead of us to let him know and I think that was when Adrian let us know he was kidding. He and Zeke were there at the hotel when we pulled up. What an ass! I seriously thought we were gonna have to make a detour to the airport. Good times!

Auciello kindly sent this to me last night in the midst of our reminiscing about Adrian. Me: Hello? Adrian: Heeyyy, what's new? Me: Well-- Adrian: Get out of that, fuckface!! Damn cat. Me: Uh. Well, like I was--- Adrian: Just hold on, I need to finish typing this email I was working on while I called you. Me: ... *in the background I can hear Adrian saying the words to himself as he types* *1 minute later* Me: Dude, I'm not going to sit here and listen to you type. Adrian: Oh, yeah, go ahead. *I talk for 30 seconds about what is new* Adrian: What was that? I wasn't listening to you man. Me: Never mind. So why did you call? Adrian: Just to see what's new. Me: ... Adrian: So guess what I got in yesterday? Me: I don't know. Adrian: Guess! Me: I give up. Adrian: I got in the new CD by ____. It's awesome! Do you want me to play you a bit over the phone? Me: No, I would rather hear it fresh rather than a brief clip over a bad connection. Adrian: Just listen. Me: *sigh* *Adrian drops receiver, and in the background I can hear him fumbling to get the CD queued to his favorite part, which usually takes about 3 minutes.* *plays half of a second, then stops playing it* Adrian: Are you listening? Me: Yes. But I can barely hear any-- *resumes playback, although all I can hear is fuzzy static and Adrian yelling at his cat, occasionally yelling towards the telephone asking me if I am still listening, even though he can't hear whether I say "yes" or "no"* Adrian: So what did you think? Me: I could barely hear anything. Adrian: Yeah, it's an awesome album. So what's new? Me: Nothing since the last time that you asked. Adrian: Cool. Well I have to go, but I'll give you a call in a couple of days. *he calls me 30 minutes later* Me: Hello? Adrian: Heeyyy, what's new? Me: Well-- ### I talked to Adrian 4-5 times a week minimum. We spent a lot of time over the last several years planning out and implementing a strategy for Unrestrained! magazine. He was extremely excited by where things were going and the fact that, by early next year, he would be on track to accomplish some major goals related to the magazine. I wish that he could have seen that day. I wish that I could have seen him see that day... Sometimes we'd chat 2-3 times a day. There was once, right around "crunch time" for a new issue, when he called me no less than 9 times. Each call was between 30 seconds and 2 minutes. He will be missed. I never realized how damn quiet my telephone is without him to dial my number.

... and quite innocently, the ECW oral sex jokes begin again. Brave of you to post it. That shot of a younger Adrian... that's from the early '90s, right? When he was in his early 20s. I didn't recognize him when it was first shown to me.

Re: Adrian 'The Energizer' Bromley - Rest In Peace
My first contact with Adrian was through e-mail in early 2000 while I was working at the Toronto UPS warehouse sorting packages. I was doing my thing when a bunch of boxes hit the floor and all these magazines came flying out... I noticed on the one of the pages that there was a full page add for Children of Bodom and I was like, "What the fuck is this? Holy shit, I know this band, what the fuck are they doing in a magazine?!" So I started flipping through the pages and was amazed at what I saw. I then grabbed all the magazines and put them carefully into the boxes and taped them up really secure like and sent them on their way. When I came home I e-mail the magazine editor (Adrian) and let him know what happened, he was extremely appreciative of my efforts and I gave him a few tips for future shipments (like don't use UPS!! ) I only met him in person many years later after I discovered the underground Metal scene and although I never really hung out with him or talked with him much, we had a mutual respect and the last time I saw him I think was at the Amorphis show where we shook hands. I have a pic of me and him together at the Burn To Black CD release party but I can't find it now, when I do I'll post it. This is sad indeed, it's no way to go in this day and age. He was an asset to the Metal community in Toronto, in Canada and the rest of the world. My condolences to his family and friends...this is going to be a rough Christmas season for pretty much all of us. "Only the good die young..."

Re: Adrian 'The Energizer' Bromley - Rest In Peace
The only hilarious MPB story I have was he called the police department of Albaquerque, New Mexico (I think), because a Braveboarder had basically disappeared off the face of the planet for a couple of months. A couple of days after the call, the boarder tells a story about how he had received an angry call from his mother wondering why there were cops at her doorstop that told her that someone from Toronto had called the cops in New Mexico and wondering if he had been missing

Re: Adrian 'The Energizer' Bromley - Rest In Peace
A few weeks ago, at the Dismember show in Toronto, I was hanging out being sour because I was still on the outs with my girlfriend (who was doing merch at the gig....AWKWARD). I'm standing there minding my own business, and I get a text message from a phone number I don't recognize. "You're cute." So I respond...."Who is this?" "You're so hot in camo pants....and I love your smile." "Who is this?" "A secret admirer... " "Where are you?" "Over by the bar....." So I look over at the bar, and there's a bunch of dudes, and Drew and Barbra, and some other people...and I'm like...ummmmmm.....so I text back: "Look, I have no idea who you are. Just come up and introduce yourself." "I will.....right after you stop texting Adrian." And he turns around and points at me and goes HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, and I couldn't help but laugh my ass off. I only had his New York number, not his Toronto number, so I was a sitting duck. What a dick.

Re: Adrian 'The Energizer' Bromley - Rest In Peace
We've been at Mandy's for our own personal "Wake" for Adrian.
What we've been going over is our own personal "Funny" Adrian stories to keep us in good spirits.
My own personal experience : I can't remember which concert, possibly Quo Vadis or Carcass but I walked out of the concert for a smoke and there was Adrian getting out of "Kevin?!"?"'s car (not sure, we were pretty drunk). He looks at me and says "Look at this motherfucker, I know who you are!" and he walks up to me and gives me a BIG ASS HUG and a QUALITY HANDSHAKE (nobody will ever top this handshake in my life). The dude fucking made me laugh harder than I ever had in my life, and I'll forever remember him for the "Hi miller, it's great to see you" that he gave me at WOTA a few weeks ago.
Adrian always remembered everyone he has ever met in my own experience, and will always be in my heart for feeling as if I'm an upper-echelon member of Toronto Metal.
You are a fucking hero Adrian, and you will forever be remembered as a peace-keeper of Toronto Metal. All of us will forever remember you if you happen to be reading this in Valhalla. You were a trailblazer for our people, and Toronto Metal would never be the same without you.

That pic of him when he was young, not sure where I got it from, but it was cool to see him in the old days for sure.

Whenever we hadn't heard from someone in like a week, we'd say to Adrian "don't go calling the cops or anything!".

Ok. This is how I feel. When I first moved to Toronto the first thing Adrian said to me was "you'll be fine down here".
He gave me the confidence to live down here and be my own man. RIP

Re: Adrian 'The Energizer' Bromley - Rest In Peace
All I want to do right now is talk to people who knew Adrian, and exchange stories about the man. But I suppose we can do that on the 17th. I can't pull myself away from the computer right now. I want to read about him, see pics I haven't seen in years, or just never saw at all. Didn't sleep much last night, not sure about tonight. I keep thinking about streetcar rides in search of vinyl... the first time we hung out... lunches at the Elephant & Castle... visiting his apartment, and the stacks of CDs he'd give me... the late phone calls... the drive to Mississauga to record some tracks for the still-imminent Detsorgsekalf CD... the shows... the merch he'd score for me... watching him be in his glory at a show, and watching people watch him... visiting him in NYC... I am so sad tonight. But I am reminded of a story. Give me a minute.
