NIN has always been heavier than Radiohead, dude.

I agree, Natesh. Metal or not, NIN got me into heavy music. Specifically the songs Wish and Happiness In Slavery.

Sadly, that was also the album that caused me to believe all industrial was that heavy & guitar-driven, leading me to spend a number of fruitless years looking for something else that compared.
Also the album that introduced me to the term "fist fuck".

Also the album that introduced me to the term "fist fuck". Yeah, that album has a pretty unique edge. The production, the anger, the intensity, the guitar tone - it all captured that explosive, combustible x-factor right at the very edge of industrial music. There was some other reasonably heavy industrial stuff out there, but nothing that really managed to replicate the qualities of Broken, that sense that both organic and synthetic elements were both pushed far past the redline and feeding off of that tension. Certainly Reznor has never come close to touching that again, either.

Re: Braveboard Top Albums of 2007
Doesn't matter if they're heavy or not, an electronic act is still far less "metal" (whatever that means) than an act that actually uses the same instruments as bands in the metal genre.

Re: Braveboard Top Albums of 2007
I understand your meaning, but there are plenty of metal acts whose instrumentation is also guitar, bass, vocals, keyboards, and drum machine...

Re: Braveboard Top Albums of 2007
It's more a matter of the rawness and aggression on NIN that makes them closer kin to metughl than Radiohead. I'm not commenting on instrumentation or anything else, it's just attitude and aesthetics.

No way the Obituary ranks higher than the Vital Remains. Good to see Nile in the top 5.

Looking back through the list I'm glad to see that Job for a Cowboy, Suicide Silence, Beneath the Massacre, and all those type of bands are nowhere to be seen.
